I had an 8525 before my Tilt which has had half the memory. I run essentially the same apps. The only difference is on the 8525 I hacked the registry to store e-mail (not just attachments) on the Storage Card.
On my Tilt I decided to not mess with the registry and just select the built-in option to store attachments on the storage card.
I'm not synching any e-mail for the past few weeks as my primary notebook is being repaired and I didn't bother configuring the e-mail synch settings and selecting all the folders to synch on my backup notebook I'm using now. Just synching calendar and contacts. I only have about 80 contacts. Only non-standard Apps I'm running are Google Maps, phoneAlarm, SBSH PocketWeather, and Spb Pocket Plus. I'm not synching any files, media or otherwise. My pim file is 1.59MB. My cemail filesize is 556KB. My Temp directory is empty.
Now here is the really bizarre thing. When I go into Settings, Memory and search for files over 64KB all it finds is my Sprite backup files on my Storage Card. Next to Search For: is <..> I can only change it to 'volume' or 'sharing' in both cases it finds nothing. Type is set to 'Larger than 64KB' It is like it is searching my Storage Card but not my main memory as I know there are lots of files over 64KB! I also noticed in Search, the Advanced button is greyed out.
My memory usage is Storage 109MB/125MB (15 MB free) and Program is 52MB/101 (50 MB free).
I have no clue what is eating the storage memory nor why the Search will search the main memory for large files!?
The only other thing I did was the registry hack to change the location of My Documents to be on the storage card.
I'm not too sure about it. (sorry ) I have a Touch with WM6 and it's doing the same that it searches the storage card, but not the device itself. I guess I never ran into this trouble before, that's why I haven't tried to do anything about it yet.
I'll try to look into a quick fix of this, but I can't make any promises. If I find anything, I'll let you know.
If you find anything, let us know too though. I hope you get your lappy back soon
I got a response in another forum which was the solution. Go into Internet Explorer, Tools, Options, Memory, Delete Files. It freed up, get this, 70MB. I use the browser on the phone quite heavily browsing many websites.
However this still doesn't answer the question why the search only searches the storage card. And also begs the question is there a setting to limit the amount of memory IE uses for temporary files/cookies in WM6 and if not, why not?
I've got 3 PC's and this phone in my home all running Windows. It seems over the years, the main culprit to many hours of lost time involving these devices that are designed to make our lives so much easier/more efficient have to do with poorly written operating systems from Microsoft. From the old days of blue screens of death to this stuff on mobile devices. It is quite frustrating and at times depressing.

PIE cache can be set. Cookie size cannot, but more on that in a minute. You can also move your cache and cookies to your card (make sure the card is optimized). I do not know the registry keys to do this, but you could probably Google it. That said, I have other thoughts for you.
Get your self a good maintenance program like MemMaid or SK Tools. Both of these not only have settings that allow you to relocate cache/cookies and set the cache size, but a host of other tools to keep your device clean. i.e. you can schedule auto cleanups of the cache, cookies and other junk files, maintain the notifications queue and more.
Or.................. get one of those programs and get rid of PIE altogether. Try Opera Mini. Not only is is much faster than PIE, it keeps no cache at all since it is server based.
