OK.. I found some other methods that people have done. Hopefully at least one of these will help.
Some people mentioned that you should uncheck the "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" (Start/Settings/Connections/USB to PC).
So these are the methods I found online. Deleted active sync profiles, disabled firewall, reinstalled activesync, hard reset (you can use Sprite backup to restore contacts) Try other methods first though, hard reseting your device should be one of the last.
There's also this. Go to your PC and go to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync
then find :WCESMgr.exe: right click in the mouse and doble click "run as" then type your login and you should be able to get back your sync...
Lastly... you can download a cab file called "ActiveSyncMode.cab" (sometimes named ActiveSyncMode.sa.cab)
You install it and run it (start/programs/activesyncmode.exe)
crap... I just realized that you're in Windows Mobile 5... I'm not too fimilar with that, so don't take what I said seriously. Sorry, that was Windows Mobile 6
Thanks for the info. I downloaded the Activesyncmode.sa.cab file to my PPC 6700 however, it won't install. I keep getting the error "Installation of Activesyncmode.sa.cab was unsuccessful". I haven't been able to find any info on resolving this problem. Any suggestions?
You might want to try the service called Dashwire if you cant get active Sync to work. I have a motoQ and it works great! You basically have an online account and you can back up all your stuff and access it on any computer with the internet. Its really smooth!
Im not familiar with your phone, but you can check out the site (dashwire.com) to see if its compatible. I think it works for most Windows mobile phones.
I'd have to agree w Eddie. Dashwire's the way to go. I've had my 700WX for 8 months, have had every sync problem mentioned, and have yet to find a solution. Combining Dashwire w/ a backup program such as SPB Backup seems to be a decent workaround

I've been using dashwire too, it's great. Geekcop I'm glad you've liked it too. I knew that those treo users experiencing problems was all just a myth!
Yeah I've heard that too, only kidding. But Likewise, good solution Geekcop. Treo's seem to just be hit or miss occassionally, glad to see someone found a way to make things run smooth
Ha...I'm staying out of this one. Just glad to be getting some love over here .

To answer Eddie's post, all I'm doing is frequent (i.e. at least 1x weekly) backups with Dashwire and SPB Backup of my system. In the event the unthinkable (hard reset) becomes necessary, I have a means to restore my device to it's current state. Of course, had MS made sure that Vista and WMDC worked harmoniously, none of this would be an issue. That's another story for another day......

Hi
1st post here...I have hp hx4700 pda & had weeks of trying to "activesync" etc.
Amongst many other things I had done soft reset and as I thought a hard reset, only recently googled Hard reset sequence for above, and found I had NOT used the correct sequence.
I have All important files on my SD card, so I took the "plunge" to hard reset, and to my amazement all back to factory settings and was able to activesync and "get connected" by following all the basic prompts.
HTH....take care
Terry
