iPhone software Gui, Keyboard, Slide 2 Unlock

This is a start to a thread I promised I would start, it is going to be yet another on going project. If you have any questions post them here, if you open new iPhone threads for themes, gui, keyboards, slide to unlock I will either move them or delete them. There are benifits of the iPhone and I will do my best to help you to get those benifits. I am not a big fan of the iPhone but do use some of the concept software.

Where to start I guess I will go from easyiest to hardest

I will start with the Slide to Unlock software its the easiest to install and not much configuring. This software was developed by A_C a credited Senior member of a very prestigious forum called xda-developers. Alot of software developement goes on there and I am proud to be a member. Also most of my software post and rom post come from there and I myself am not a developer just someone who simplifies others work. The problem alot of people have with larger forums is finding exactly what they are looking for and I hopefully help gather this information and redistibute it in an easy to read and understand form.

Alot of the members that develope software over at xda-developers do not sell there software and make alot of it easily availble with open sources so please, please consider giving a donation if you like and use there software. Also consider give a donation to xda-developers - Xda-developers they are a great community that makes the gathering of developers possible. You can make a donation to xda-developers here Donate to XDA here

Ok this is a copy and paste from xda for the most part and you can find the original thread here (14 January 2008) S2U2 v0.98 - beyond the basic - xda-developers

S2U2 is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device. And it's has a CallerID function.

Updates:
- added GIF format support to Wallpapers; with option GifSpeed to control the animation speed. (there is no GIF file included in the CAB file as I don't want to get into any copyright trouble)

- added option to select a directory for S2U2 to change the wallpapers (*.jpg) automatically; with option to control the changing period & change them randomly.

- added support to display over-sized Wallpapers.

- added option to change the font of the Clock (clock\, clockH\ or clockHS\).

- added option to display an Analog Clock (clockA\).

(From left to right: clockH\, clockHS\ & clockA\)

- added ARGB PNG format support to all graphics files.

- added ShowWeather to retrieve today's weather forecast from other weather applications. For UserWeather, you have to manually update the registry key UserWeather (STRING) under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\A_C\S2U2. The format is "icon|index|high temp|low temp" where icon is S, P or W.

- added SIM card support to CallerID.

- added option S2AEndKey to enable/disable the End key when S2A is activated.

- added option NoSoftKey to hide all soft buttons. But how to UNLOCK? Press the RIGHT-DPAD.

- added option TopCurtain to enable/disable the display of the topbar.png.

- added the BT headset status icon.

- added an Exceptional applications list that when these applications are running, S2U2 will not start automatically. (Edit the Registry, under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\A_C\S2U2, add a key ExceptionEXE0 (STRING) with the name of the application (e.g. iexplore.exe). A total of 10 (0-9) ExceptionEXE can be added. Then restart iLock2.)

- fixed the issue that DirectDraw could not be used when the device is in Landscape.

- fixed the issue when S2A is enable, the BT headset button did not work.

- fixed the issue when "Password/Pin Lock" or "Owner Information" are enabled.

- changed some wordings of "s2u2 Settings.exe"

- some bugs fixed

Addons
Language pack available here
Clock pack is here

Installation:</B>
- If you have Slide2Unlock installed, please uninstall it first & then soft-reset.

- After installation, there are 3 shortcuts created under \Program Files\S2U2:
iLock2.lnk - start/stop ilock2.exe (on the 1st run, it runs silently in the background; on the 2nd run, it closes iLock2 & S2U2)
s2u2.lnk - manually start S2U2 (be sure iLock2 is running in the background, otherwise the Battery status will not be updated).
s2u2 Settings.lnk - change the settings of S2U2.

- A shortcut for iLock2.exe is created automatically under "\Windows\StartUp" as well.

- Installation on Storage Card is not recommended for the sake of stability.

- For hi-res devices, d/l the S2U2ClockPack.rar & follow the steps in the ClockReadme.txt. Otherwise the clock will be shown as half-sized.

- For additional clock fonts, d/l the S2U2ClockPack.rar & follow the steps in the ClockReadme.txt.

- For non-English devices, d/l the S2U2LanguagePack.rar; extract your language's ini file; rename it to lang.ini; copy to the S2U2 installed folder; restart iLock2.

Ok another great program from PocketCM this is the keyboard that can have an iPhone theme installed

The original post can be found at this website PocketCM Contacts & Keyboard

Why another keyboard for Windows Mobile?

Because:
  • It can be used with fingers
  • It suggest word based on letter position
  • It trigger the key when your remove your finger from the screen, not when you press it.
  • It can be customized
  • It's a standard Windows Mobile SIP, so to use it you have to select it as the input method, therefore it can be used in (almost) any application.
How does it work?

First of all, it offers a visible feedback of the key currently pressed, you can imagine that your finger is on the keyboard... and now you can easily see what key is pressed.

Second important thing: you can move your finger, the key will change, release it, the key will be triggered (so it's the opposite of a physical keyboard: the actual action is when you release the key, not when you push it).

The third reason that it works is smart suggestion based on key position. If you look at the screenshot you can see that I typed "leyblaed". This word doesn't exist in english. The keyboard then looked at all the possible variation from this word... and found "keyboard". That's exactly the word I wanted to type.

How does the keyboard do? it simply uses the letter position: 'l' is near 'k', 'eyb' are correct, 'l' is also near 'o', the 'a' is correct, then 'e' is near 'r' and 'd' is correct. The only possible matching word is "keyboard". Note that the actual distance (in pixel) is used, not the key position, it's more precise, produce better result, but if you try to reproduce this exact example, maybe the closest suggestion will
be another word

Now a simple usability feature: from the previous screen, if I press the space bar, it will simply replace the word you have typed by the suggestion. As you can see "leyblaed" is replaced by "keyboard". You can also see that I have a green suggestion box: if I type on it, it undo the suggestion, useful in case when PocketCM Keyboard replace the word you intend to type.

Another reason why it works is adding new words. As you can see I typed "PocketCM", and my dictionnary doesn't know this word yet. I can simply press the "+PocketCM" button, this will add PocketCM to my dictionnary.

That's a feature missing in many keyboard or SIP method: easy control over the dictionary. Most SIP are doing some very clever and smart management of new word in dictionary... the prob you're never sure when a word is added ... or not.
Also, because it's important to manage dictionnary, they are simple text file.

Another issue with most keyboard: how to put enough key to make them easy to find, while still be usable?
PocketCM offer "symbol pad", pressing a key for a given amount of time (250ms by default), will bring a "sub keyboard layout", where you'll be able to find useful symbol. For instance, by default, pressing the symbol key (123#?) will allow you to quickly select the right punctuation.

Most keyboard tries to replicate the physical keyboard we all know... with alt, ctrl, shift, etc... That's a good approach but not very finger friendly.
PocketCM goes a step further: why you need ctrl key? Most of the people responded: for copy/cut and paste. So PocketCM keyboard bring you easy access to cut/copy/paste. Simply press and hold the enter key for 250ms.

Customization! Most aspect of the keyboard (layout, skin, dictionary) can be customized. You can simply press and hold the return key for to select option. You'll be able to choose among various layout, dictioanry and skins.

You can also create your own, or download those created by the PocketCM Keyboard's users.
Other reasons includes:
  • Customizable layout: as you can see the layout is "azerty" for the screenshot, by default PocketCM Keyboard comes with a QWERTY layout. Creating your own is just a question of editing a text file.
  • Accent recognition and suggestion: the keyboard know accentued letter... so for instance, the french word for summer is "été", if I type 'e', 't', 'e', the keyboard will suggest "été". No need to go to a sub/hidden keyboard doing some accentued letters.
  • Once you get used to it, you can grab it with two hand and type with the thumb... goes pretty well.
You like this software? You want new version, new feature, bug fixes? Access to preview version?, support for device that I don't have or language I don't understand? Support me! Donate!.

Ok this is the iPhone skin for the above PCM Keyboard this was developed by 2manyphones over at xda-developers and is also a Senior member to that great forum he has taken his time to create a skin that looks alot like the iPhone if you use this software please consider giving a donation.

The original post can be found here
iPhone skin for PCM Keyboard - refined - xda-developers

This is another cut and paste from xda-developers

iPhone skin for PCM Keyboard - refined
After many months of tweaking this skin, I think it is about as good as it can get (for my personal use). For those of you not familiar with PCM Keyboard, it is a program being developed as a replacement on screen keyboard for PPC devices.

I am providing the skin and layout files only, please refer any program or device compatibility questions to the developers thread or website.
The latest version the application can be downloaded at this link (keep in mind the developer currently puts an expiration of 30 days on each version until it is commercially released. So plan on upgrading to the newest version each month or plan on purchasing the software when it is launched):
http://pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php
Support:
http://pocketcm.com/phorum/index.php?9
XDA thread with the latest version information:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321712

There are two files that have to be loaded onto your device and selected in the options/settings for this skin to work: The keyboard layout file: Eng iphone12 and the keyboard skin file: iPhone 12 When changing the layout or skin files, I suggest restarting the device to make sure everything has changed correctly.

This design was done to allow almost any layout work with this skin, so I have also included a multi language layout (File:GrayIphone(qwerty) and a "azerty" layout created by ialu in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330525

Here are some features of this skin:
Main screen:
-Numbers pop up if you press and hold the "123#?" key
-ESC, TAB, Home, End and Del pop from the , (comma) key. Note the Tab and some of these buttons don't work with all applications.
-Basic symbols pop up from the . (period) key. Period is the default pop up key, so if you press and hold too long and don't slide to another symbol, you will still get just a period.
-If you press and hold a letter, you will get a caps letter (idea borrowed from my BlackBerry).
-If you press and hold the space bar, you will get a period and a space (also from BB).
-Caps lock is still double press on the shift (up arrow) and double press to change back to lower caps.
On the symbol keyboard (one press of 123#?):
-If you press the internet explorer key you will get "http://www."
-If you press and hold the internet explorer key you can choose: https://, .net, .org, .com or www.

This skin / layout also supports landscape. This was not easy and I had to compromise some eye candy to get all the buttons to look right in both orientations. It does take up a LOT of screen in landscape, but I didn't want to make the buttons smaller for portrait use.

Keep in mind all of this customization is set in the layout file and can be opened and modified in wordpad. The only trick is making sure it is saved as a .layout file. I suggest making a copy of the layout file you are changing, rename it, make your changes and then save it (not save as).

I made this skin for my personal use and am sharing because I haven't seen anything else that works as good - for me. I am not a developer or a designer, so again please try to search for questions in the thread links I have provided. Please feel free to modify, use, distribute any of the graphics or file settings - no need to ask

If you prefer black keys with white letters, got to this post:

If you like some color in your keyboard, try this version:

hi,

i'm new here and i just installed slide 2 unlock on my 8125...

i wasn't sure if the screen is supposed to be the same waterlily picture the entire time or just when i have the option to unlock? i have a different picture and theme on my phone, but i want to keep the same waterlily set up.
is that something that should already be set up, or do i have to play with the settings, or is it just not offered?

thanks in advance.
