i just got the unlocked cingular 8525 and i am have trouble getting new cool free software program like the weather, dictionary and stuff...and i really want the medical dictionary...i managed to get the google map tho...any help..thanks
I don't understand your problem -- are you unable to locate the apps you need, or are you having trouble installing them on your 8525. I have an 8525 and most things run smoothly. I had a problem with magicbutton, in that it made my device "hang" so I took it off. Handandgo has a lot of software including medical dictionaries, and check cnet and PCmag for PPC software recommendations.
thanks rick...well i have been to some website trying to download the handy weather and some others at also goload.com too....but i keep getting this is not a valid pocket pc application...i will try the handigo and see how it goes.
The issue with the "not a valid PPC app" might be simple to solve. I have found that PPC apps come in two flavors -- those that you load on the 8525 and install from the PPC, and those that are installed on your desktop PC and then installed automatically when you sync. I found a good tutorial about this. I hope this helps you. I really love my 8525 after only a week, but I admit that I was at a total loss for about a day or two, until I googled the heck out of it. I have never downloaded a program directly to my 8525. I have always downloaded the program to my desktop PC (a laptop, really) and then did the install. If you are downloading directly from the web to your 8525, then the directions might be different.
Basically, if you download a file with an .exe extension, then run the program on your desktop PC. It will do all the steps necessary to put the program on your 8525 the next time you sync. The .exe files typically are the ones that tell you "not a valid ppc program" if you try to run it on the Pocket PC. If the program is a .cab or a few other variations, then you copy the .cab file to your 8525 as per the tutorial.
I hope this helps. One other thing ... you stated that your 8525 was unlocked. If you are wondering if the unlocked status is causing a problem, I don't think you have a concern. I looked at unlocking my Cingular 8525 for the heck of it, and nothing I read indicated that it would cause a problem. (I didn't pursue the unlock code, though, as I am happy with the Cingular unlimited data plan, and any other carrier would cost a fortune.)

PS -- I looked at your weather app link. Nothing tells me the format for the program (ie, .exe or .cab) so I can't help you there; however, the supported devices states Cingular 8125 and the 8525 is not listed. This is probably NOT the issue, as the two devices are similar and both use WM.50. You never can tell, though. I'd try downloading something else (to your desktop PC, not to your 8525) that is listed as compatible, and see if it works.
I just searched Handandgo for 8525 programs, and then looked up your Weather To Go. It is telling me in big print that it is not compatible with the 8525. The downside is that I looked for free software for the 8525 and got a ton of free for trial software, but I didn't see any that was free forever. Bummer
thanks rick....my mistake was trying to run the program on my phone..i finally start the run on my computer and it works..just like you said my phone picked it up when i begin to run the program on my computer.
