First, you need the cab file available to your device. So it needs to be downloaded to your device, copied there from your desktop host over your ActiveSync connection, or copied to a memory card from your PC that can inserted into your device.

To run the cab file and have it install to its predefined default location, simply use File Explorer to navigate to the cab file and then double-tap it. The install will take place on its own from there.

If you want to set the app's install location (say, to a memory card), you will need to get an app like Cabinstl which you can find on freecabs.de and several other freeware sites. It is not the only installation controller, but I have found it easy to use. Cab files are deleted as part of the post-install clean-up unless you change that setting with either the OS or Cabinstl.

Great response - this should be added to the site FAQ we should make.
