I've seen a bluetooth GPS unit that attaches to a keychain (thats the only way I'll keep it with me) and GPS programs like Mapopolis. So if I pair the PocketPC with the GPS I can use a program to pinpoint my location and get directions anywhere??? Does it really work like that. I am inexperienced with the PocketPC capabilities and VERY inexperienced with GPS. But I also have ZERO sense of direction so this could be very useful.
Anyone have experience with this and suggestions of programs/GPS units.
Hi, Bclancy3 !
The GPS unit tells your computer where you are (exactly, within 10 feet).
Your "mapping" software locates this position on a map and can show you where you are (on the map - 'cause I'm always "HERE")
The program can also work out directions from where you are to a specific address, etc, according to the software and the maps you have access to.
For personal use, mapopolis seems to be great since you only get the maps you need.... for "the boss pays for it" use, you have many other alternatives, including iguidance (apparently a favorite in the US and Canada), TomTom (apparently popular in Europe), WisePilot (a server based monthly pay-as-you-go system I'm using at this time), Microsoft Streets, and Mapopolis (inexpensive, and basic)...
As for which GPS unit to get... well, check them out... I went for the cheapest... my brother for the "best"... go figure...
