iPAQ 3835 sync problem

Hello all - Here is my issue
Have desktop running Win XP Home. Have iPAQ 3835. Using Activesync 3.8. Has been syncing OK for months.
Recently updated the ROM on device with Windows Mobile 2003. After upgrading the device I was able to set it up through activesync and was able to sync for the first few times without problems.
Now all of a sudden it will not sync. I place the device on the cradle and it connects right away. Activesync opens and says "Looking for Changes". After a few seconds it says "Syncronization Error" and shows it disconnected. If I take it out of the cradle and put it back in it will connect again and go through the same process and the same error.
Now the interesting part. If I try to install a application the normal install window opens and says "Your program will be installed upon next connection & syncronization". I take the device off the cradle and put it back and the sync window opens and the program installs perfectly to the device. After the program installs of course the "sync error" happens and the device disconnects.
I sync with my laptop at work with no problems so I thought it might be a bad cradle. I brought my sync cable from work and connected it to the desktop and it still has the same problems.
Sorry to be long winded but I wanted to give you all the info. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is the problem and any possible solutions??
Thanks in advance

3835 syncing problems

When you upgraded to wm2003 on your ipaq 3835, did you have similar prompts like this when you did the update:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c00041001

If you did not, check your asset viewer on the ipaq to see if your serial number matches the rear panel of the ipaq. If it shows as blank or all of a same number or letter in the software, this might be the problem.

Please let me know if you have your serial number information intact, and thanks.
