Activesync/inbox count problem

Hey guys,
I am running PPC2003 on a toshiba e800 and have run into a small annoyance. I backed up my PDA and wiped the device as I was trying out some some software and hacks (VGA Mode things). Once I had the programs i wanted I wiped te device, restored my back up and installed the new programs. Everything is working great but on the today screen I get:
Inbox: 2 unread messages
This is with an empty inbox! If I sync and actually download some unread messages I get the following:
ActiveSync: 5 unread messages
Inbox: 2 unread messages
The Active Sync line updates per my inbox but the other line seems to be stuck. I tried the little program "FixUnreadCount.exe" which fixes the "Inbox: -1 unread messages" problem but it didn't help me.
I also tried syncing directly to our exchange 2003 and telling it to remove everything from the PDA and pulling new info from the server. This didn't help either.
Thanks for your ideas.
Jacob

Hi jsouthard and welcome
Your inbox is different from your Activesync inbox. It would be perhaps an ISP based account such as rr.com, earthlink.net, etc.
Open inbox and look under accounts and see if there are any other inboxes there that might be holding your two phantom messages.
If you can't find it, there's a step two we can discuss.
Good luck!
Brad

Hey Brad,
I pulled up Inbox and under accounts all that is listed is ActiveSync. In the options->accounts nothing is listed. The same is true in the inbox folder list, it only shows the ActiveSync folder. Is there some way (alternate file explorer) to see the actuall mailbox files and remove all of them. I don't mind wiping syncable info and starting over.

Here's what I've done in the past to fix this problem.
It requires a backup software like sprite software's backup or ipaq backup that lets you pick and choose which items are restored. What I do is just hard reset the device again and restore from backup, but first I uncheck INBOX as an item to restore. That way, after the restore you start with a fresh inbox and the phantoms go away.
hope this helps

Brad,
Thanks!! It worked. That is a pretty nice backup package. I think I'll add that to my wish list. I've a PDA for about 7 months now but haven't really started using it till now. I'll have to check out the forums to find other useful programs.
Thanks again for the help.

Here's a great thread that James put together on VGA capable programs with a TON of great screen shots over at Pocket PC Tools....You have to check this out since you have a Toshiba e800...
