If you are out and about trying to find hotspots, one of the most popular applications to do so is MiniStumbler by Stumbler dot net. MiniStumbler lets you get into your car snooping out or "stumbling" onto unlocked WiFi hotspots (wardriving). Today, they announced it has been updated to 0.4 "Since I released NetStumbler 0.3.30, I have experienced birth, death, illness, new job, and increased bandwidth costs. None of these will be helped by the arrival of both NetStumbler and MiniStumbler versions 0.4. Download and enjoy. Sorry it took so long."
MiniStumbler is a tool for Windows CE that allows you to detect Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) using 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. It has many uses:
* Verify that your network is set up the way you intended.
* Find locations with poor coverage in your WLAN.
* Detect other networks that may be causing interference on your network.
* Detect unauthorized "rogue" access points in your workplace.
* Help aim directional antennas for long-haul WLAN links.
* Use it recreationally for WarDriving.
I haven't been able to use prior versions due to WiFi Card incompatibilites, but I am loading it now to see if it works now.
Brad,
Did it work? I've never gotten it to work on any PPC I've owned (all Toshibas).

Nope...it didn't recognize my card (AmbiCom)
Most of the forums pointed to WiNC (http://www.cirond.com/site/products/wifispotter.htm) as working with my card. I grabbed the demo and it does work. Not sure if I'm going to register though...since I don't do much warchalking.
Hey, here's another article about ministumbler: New Wardriving Software, Netstumber and Ministumbler.
I wasn't able to get Ministumbler to work on my iPAQ, but I used some tips over in the brighhand forums to install Intersil Prism drivers which fixes my PPC to work with Pocket Warrior - like ministumbler. It took a few minutes, but it definately does work.
Today I'll try ministumber again and see if it works with the Intersil Prism drivers.
What's interesting about all this, is I don't get very good reception in my house. I was walking around with Pocket Warrior seeing just how much reception is where when suddenly BLING BLING! It detected another WiFi connection from a different router IN my HOUSE -- Maybe this crossover is what's causing the problems. More research to do.....
