This is great news! For those of you who have been using OneNote (I'm one of them. ) An article on Yahoo News describes a OneNote Service Pack that adds new functionality including: Office integration and support syncing with Pocket PC notes
I think this application is great and it does so much for organizing thoughts and web pages that I'm ecstatic that it will sync with Pocket PC Notes. However the article states: "Pocket PC users will be able to sync notes taken using Windows Mobile's memo pad to OneNote (but not the other way around). Audio and video captured by Pocket PCs can also be synced to OneNote, Moore says."
I'm not familiar with Windows Mobile's memo pad... :? Are you? Microsoft is updating its OneNote note-taking application with a service pack that adds significant new features, including ones that increase Office integration and support syncing with Pocket PC notes.
A preview version of OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1 is scheduled to be available as a free download from Microsoft's Web site. Microsoft plans to release the final version shortly after the company launches SP1 for Microsoft Office, which is expected this summer, says Bobby Moore, OneNote product manager.
Moore says most of the improvements are inspired by OneNote user requests. Enhanced Office integration "was a hugely requested feature," he notes.
Read the article for all of the new features.

Hey, you guys talked me into using OneNote. Now I'm hooked. Looks like this upgrade is 1/2 good in that it only syncs one way. :? Well, half is better than nothing 8-)
How the heck did I miss this thread? I just posted this news on our front page after an email from MS and came here to tell bk the good news and lo and behold he beat me to it?
That's what I get for doing real work today.

I have played with one-note once and did not get it... I think I need to look at again... it is sitting in my cd's with server 2003 and exchange 2003 to load.
The syncing is seamless and super quick. It works by automatically syncing the Notes files on the PPC every time you connect via Activesync provided OneNote is running.
If you sync and OneNote is not running then it just doesn't do anything. That's a nice touch. It synced all the notes on my PPC (about 20) in 3 seconds. I even created some test ink notes and they come through perfectly in OneNote. It created a tab called "Copied PocketPC Notes" and put all of them in there as pages. Each page named based on the Note name on the PPC.
Now if there was only a way to see the OneNote stuff on the PPC.....

Wait a minute...wait just one darn minute...Are you saying you can sync with OneNote now....or do you have an early copy of the Service Pack?

I downloaded the Preview of SP1 and installed it after removing OneNote from my system. According to the MS website you can run it until the real SP1 comes out and remove the preview.
Therefore, I can sync now. As can anyone else running OneNote. That's why it's big news. After I got the email I went straight to the OneNote web page and the link to download the preview is very well hidden under the Thank You phrase. After reading your article here I went to the Yahoo link and which contains no link to the download. I wonder if MS intended for this to go out yet.
Go get it quick- it's 83mb.

I didn't get it at first either. But we had a thread that went offtopic into a Onenote discussion. I think it's great. Use it every day now.
I think MS hid the Preview download link as a test. If you can't find it they don't want you using pre-release s/w.

I see where you can make your one notes Outlook tasks, appointments or contacts... and copy notes now but even if I put the note in teh copied folder it does not go from PC to PPC... that would be a great feature... or even One Note for PPC
Hey, since I put the Onenote preview on my machine it's no longer in my systray for easy access. Anyone else notice this? :?
Yeah, there's a workaround on their website somewhere. Mine went away too but I don't remember what it said to do about it.

thanks James,
Here's the fix. Open Onenote. Go to Tools>Options>Other and uncheck the item "Place onenote icon in the notification area of the taskbar".
Exit from OneNote then relaunch and go back and recheck the "Place onenote icon in the notification area of the taskbar" Then it should work.
BTW, one of my favorite blogs is Chris Pratley's weblog: http://weblogs.asp.net/chris_pratley/
Chris is the Product Manager for OneNote at Microsoft and he's chronicled the development project from the conception to now. He's got a lot of insight of how to use the program effectively.

OneNote is getting even more powerful with the release of SP1 due to third party additions. I thought others might find this interesting as I do.
OPML import- a user has developed an addin for OneNote to allow the user to import OPML outlines. Even if you don't use OPML outlines you can easily bring in your gigantic RSS feed list in OPML and have clickable links on a OneNote note page. You can find this tool here: http://www.netcrucible.com/blog/Perm...6-7b6e2e852934
Another user has developed an Outlook Powertoy that is called Outlook2OneNote. This tool allows you to do the following (from the author's web blog):
Copy an e-mail, post or note from Outlook to a specified OneNote section.
Optionally delete said item
Optionally mark said item read
Navigate to that item later on (say you copy the item to OneNote but keep the original in Outlook, you can easily get back to it).
Create a New Side Note
Open OneNote
This tool is not quite ready yet but the author says it will be soon. It sounds like a great way to easily get Outlook information directly into OneNote. I use NewsGator as an RSS aggregator in Outlook and I can see getting articles I want to keep directly into OneNote.
