best freeware software available?

hi all
im new to the forums, have a Toshiba e-350 w/256 meg sd card. running ppc2003
was wondering what the essestial freeware apps are. i know check notifications is one. are there any other good freeware programs that are must have?

I'm biased on the last two so confirm with somebody else here. I'll try to think of some more- I'm on my PPC and keyboard and it's difficult to juggle multiple web sites to provide you links.

James -- I was digging around in our forums and yours for an article that was posted a couple of weeks ago about the "must have" freeware applications. Are you able to locate that and post the link?
