Help needed - issues with activesync :-(

Hello all, I am new to these forums and have joined out of frustration from using active sync, so I hope someone can help me.
I am using Activesync 3.7.1 (although this issue has been bugging me for over 12 months, I just haven't done anything about it, but now I am so annoyed I nearly watched my PDA fly the other day ) My PDA is a Compaq 3870.
What seems to happen, on a regular daily basis, is I take my PDA off the cradle, all appointments etc synced and so on, but after using it for the day, come home to resink all my collected info and activesync doesn't start.
The "Connect to" screen on the PDA is also not displayed, but it always works if I do a soft reset. I have been doing soft resets now for over 12 months and am now well and truely sick of it...plus I am unsure as to what damage this may cause the PDA in the longer term?.
Even if I do a complete cleanout and rebuild of my PDA (hard Reset) it still does it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
kind regards
Rossco

Are you connected right into your computers usb port or are you using a USB hub? Are you using the cradle supplied with the device or are you using a third party sync cable?
Have you ever installed an Ipaq ROM Update? (Is it running Pocket PC 2002 or WM2003?)
I know there is a ROM update here.

Also, based on your description, I would lean heavily in the direction of your virus scan software or a software firewall (Zone Alarm?) interfering with your connection. I would recommend temporarily disabling one or both - if you have them - and seeing if it syncs properly.

Hi bkbroil,
Thanks for your reponse, I am connected through the monitor hub rather than directly to the PC, I will change that and see what happens.
Yes I am using the cradle/cable supplied originally.
Yes I have installed a ROM update (alhtough this was also happening prior to the update) and am running PPC 2003 with ROM update version 4.00.
Cheers and regards

Hi Brad,
thanks for responding, Yes I have wondered about the Firewall (Zonealarm Pro) and AV (Computer Associates) in the past, and have tried your suggestion before, but will try again just to make sure.
cheers and regards

Help needed - issues with activesync :-( Update

Hi again,
well I thought I would give you an update on the status of this problem I have been having with Activesync etc..
I decided to make the necessary changes Brad and bkbroil suggested, disabling firewall etc, change from hub to Mobo USB port, checked was using the latest ROM and version of Activesync.
After that did not change anything, I also decided to wipe the PPC and start over, with the mindset of eliminating any issue other installed software on the PPC may be causing, what I do is install an app, use the PPC for a couple of days and then resync etc..
What I found so far is that after installing Agenda Fusion (one of my favourite apps) both my purchased version 5.8, then a trial of the new version 6, only to find that with this app installed, I start having these issues again.
I have uninstalled it and the problems went away? strange? so now I will continue with the installation of other apps I use and see if they too, have the same effect.
I will also try pocket informant and see if that causes the problem. (I need a decent PIM as the Pocket Outlook is rubbish IMO)
Cheers, I will keep you posted.
regards
Rossco
