Hi,
one bug fixed another comes up,somehow neither `mobile device` nor the explore option from active sync, lets me explore the file structure on my ppc, nothing comes up,the folders empty...whats wrong here?
thx for help
sludge
Hi Sludge,
Try this. With the explore window open, hit your F5 key. That will force refresh the contents. This works about 95% of the time for me when this happens. If it doesn't work, I believe it's a memory error having to do with too many programs running on your PPC.
Let me know fi this helps,
Brad
Hi Brad,
I tried what you told me to,but it didnt work,i did some research on my own and heres what i found out
(im using ppc2003, on an hp 2215 activesync version3.7)
1.even though ive deletd and reinstalled my active sync, and even did a soft reset the active sync always treats my ppc as a `GUEST` instead of POCKET_PC (which is its actual id),
it corrected once when i reinstalled active sync but the bugs there again.
(i should mention i had my old ppc (pocket_pc1) on this compuetr but ive removed its info)
the microsoft help site only gives a suggestion for active sync 3.1-3.6...and that didnt help.
Plus i felt the mp3s were playin slowly today compared to yesterday (when my sd card was just 25 percent full).....
I appreciate your help,Thanx
SLudge
Are you running any firewall software? Zonealarm? You might try turning that off if you are. If not, you might try disabling virus protection software (temporarily) just to see if either of these are blocking.
Make sure you're running the latest version of ActiveSync which I believe is 3.7.1
This had a fix directly aimed at the "Guest" connection problem.

hi,
i downloaded 3.7.1, removed all traces of the last active sync and tried it...synced once as (POCKET_PC) and removed the ppc from cradle...i place it again and bam!..Im GUEST! again.....
Its the guest bug that doesnt let me explore my ppc file structure
If i do a hard reset ill have to reinstall half a million programs again, since a guest cant really back up all info.....

Given your problem if you do hard reset do not restore anything. You will just be restoring whatever is triggering the Guest but.

Hi guys,
I've been having exactly the same problem myself with ActiveSync.
I'd boot up my PC, ActiveSync would kick in... I could happily browse the Pocket PC's contents happily. Remove the device from the cradle, reinsert it, and 9 times out of 10, I wouldn't be able to view the files on the device using ActiveSync's Explore button. The only way around this problem, Reboot (although logging out of Windows 2000 and re-logging in also sometimes worked).
I work with all kinds of devices, PPC, PPC2002 and 2003's, and all seem to suffer from this problem.
Now, the tricky bit.
I was using the latest version of ActiveSync, v3.7.1, but I have fixed this problem by upgrading to, errrm, v3.7.1.
Microsoft has released a new version of this (dated Mar26, 2004, build 4034) but kept the version number the same. They don't reckon that this is a significant enough of a release to increase the version number.
They also don't give any indications about exactly what new features have gone into this release.
Go and grab a copy of this latest release from MS's website, and this should sort you out nicely. http://www.support.microsoft.com/

I have the same problem on 1 computer but not on a 2nd one, which both run the same versions of XP
I don't think in my case at anyrate that it is anything to do with Activesync as the same problem exists if I try to see the files on my PDA (HP 1940) by opening up My Computer with Activesybc closed.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers via Device Manager without any success. Does anyone else have any ideas
An important feature of Sprite Backup is the ability to tell the backup to stop all processes prior to backing up or restoring. This is important as it will prevent open processes not backing up.
