Pocket-DVD Studio looking Good!

I like DVD to Pocket PC..I mean I really like DVD to Pocket PC! (I've watched Matchstick Men, Lost in Translation and Bad Boys in the past week. ) Today I was browsing PDA Live and I found this application that looks like it beats DVD to Pocket PC. The name of the application is Pocket-DVD studio. It ouputs .avi files which can be used on your PPC by the free application PocketMVP to view the .avi files.
What makes it better are a couple of things, but mostly it allows true "Full Screen Mode".
also the website states: "PocketMVP is a much better choice than Windows Media Player. New release (on 01/18/2004) now even supports graphics acceleration for ATI chip(on e750, e800, etc)." Yay! for my new Toshiba e805!

One step conversion - No intermediate steps means better quality, less conversion loss and faster!
True full-screen - 70% more viewable area by getting rid of annoying black area. (See comparison) Allow view mode switch during playback. You will never miss any details of the picture.
High quality - Video parameters tuned for QVGA(320x240) display. Audio amplified for PPC's less powerful speaker.
Ease of use - Click "Open DVD", click "Start" and you are done.
Fully customizable - 6 cropping modes and each mode have 5 - 7 resolution settings to choose. Friendly user interface, you can become an expert without learning complicated stuff on video processing.

I've often wondered if the divx really is better than wmv converted files. The wmvs I've seen are really good and the Pocket Divx I've converted myself look good too. :?

Hey James! Glad to see you over here...I love your Pocket PC Tools site! I didn't get the sense that this does VGA. I still think it's QVGA(320x240) but optimized for the ATI chip set in the Toshiba....But I will let you know by the end of the weekend.
Have you seen my review of the Resco Keyboard and the Toshiba e805. I know you guys are as crazy about this PPC as I am. Maybe some of your readers would like to see the Resco keyboard compared to the Ripboard which I hope will be in the next version of MyVGA. (Feature request :P )

bk, great to be here. Nice review of Resco. I've been using it for months with my e805 and it's great.
But, if you want a true out of desktop experience, surf the web and do email sitting in a Starbucks (or WiFi hotspot of choice) with your Toshiba and the Stowaway IR keyboard. Talk about cool factor. 8)
I use this regularly to leave my laptop at home now and do a lot of the admin forum work on Tools from my 805.

Hey funny you should mention that! I just recieved my Stowaway IR Keyboard yesterday and I was telling Brad this morning that I was going to take some snapshots over the weekend and post a review next week. It's amazing! In fact, I was using it last night and I cruised over to your forums and read your "Confession of a VGA Junkie" and I posted a reply using the keyboard. (It didn't appear to have posted probably because the I'm still getting used to the WiFi going on and off )
But...any of you PPCA readers out there that are thinking of a Toshiba or need more reasons on why you should get a VGA PPC....YOU MUST READ James' Confession of a VGA Junkie ! It's hits the nail on the head!

Actually, I responded to your post on Tools so you know what's going on:
I notice from the fact that your post went automatically in the iPAQ forum that you posted from your PPC in our mobile site. We have a known but unfixed bug in the mobile edition of Tools that puts all posts into the iPAQ forum. We are working on fixing it.
I would suggest though that you open up your browsing experience and stop using the mobile edition of any web site. With VGA you don't need them as you can get the full browsing experience in VGA with no compromises.
There's a discussion thread showing you how you can fool web site sniffers that autodirect you to mobile site versions into thinking you are using a desktop browser.

So, it's not your fault at all you couldn't find it but now you can. You really should fix your registry so you can view all web sites in true VGA glory.

Hey bk, does your WiFi go off after about 10 minutes? If so, fire up the WLAN manager and turn off power saving. That's all it does, even if you're using it.

Does this do true VGA on the Toshiba e800?

Okay I've spent the morning playing around with Pocket-DVD Studio and Pocket MVP. And here's what I've found.
Does it support "true" VGA? That depends.....It allowed me to view the movies in on my Toshiba while in 640x480 resolution but the picture was horrible.
but.....I switched over to standard 240x320 resolution and the picture takes up the full screen in landscape mode and it is AMAZING! So, I'm not sure if this supports VGA or not.
This picture is much better than the DVD to Pocket PC picture and it takes up the full screen. I know the screen is only 4" but using that much more real estate makes the picture seem double in size. Yup...I believe I'm going to have to invest the $35 for this application since I watch about 3 movies per week on my PPC. (uhhhhh....in Canada of course )
