I haven't transferred any of the files across yet...but...how are you saving your Word files? Did you try saving the document in Word as a Pocket Word file .psw? On the File menu -->> Save As and in the Save As Common dialog there is a "Save as Type" drop down box which contains the option to save the document as "Pocket Word Document .psw"...

I just tried it...and it worked fine....I created a doc in Office 2003 and saved it and it converted without any problems. I then opened it up on my PPC without any problems.

Ever since I upgraded to office 2003 my word files will not convert to the pocketpc. Has anyone else had this problem?
knelson,
Are you getting an error message or are you getting corruption? I too use Office 2003 and the documents are converting properly so far. I consider myself somewhat of a doc - wiz, it should be fixable...just let me know.
happens when they are attachments to e-mail and also when saving as doc file and adding to mobile documents...
I even uninstalled active sync and all extras, like iapresenter, journal sync and money.
hear is the error
Cannot convert file "Promissory Note".
The file convertor could not convert the file. The file may contain unexpected data. Please check the contents of the file before trying the conversation again.
Thanks for all your help.
Ok, I'm gonna do some poking around but first thing. You've probably done this already but if you open word2003 and go to Tools>Options><Save Tag>
Where it says Save Word documents as: It should say Word Document (*.doc) If that is correct, try swapping it to something else like html, type some junk and try saving THAT to your mobile documents folder. Then switch it back to .doc
If it was wrong to begin with, that's the problem. If you get an error when trying to copy an html document we are looking for something else.
Another thing to check is to make sure Activesync has your associations right. Sometimes these get goofed.
Open activesync and hit Options button then Rules Tab Then hit the Conversion settings Button. Up top is Desktop to Device tab...choose that and look over your associations.
Microsoft word document .doc should be converting to Pocket Word Documents *.psw
checked the associations and they seem fine. Opened the file(s) in question in word and saved as pws. I get a dialog box that says <filename>.doc may contain features that are not compatible with Pocket Word Document format. Do you want to save teh document in this format.
say yes
next dialog
This file needs to be saved using the Pocket Word Document text converter. If you are not the author of this file or if the file is not from a trusted source, using this converter may pose a security risk. Click to save this file only if you are sure it is from a trusted source.
yes or no
yes it saves and converts...
wonder if the security alerts are any part of the problem?
also I am having other problems with active sync lately, it will start to sync and stop and restart. I have been digging on this problem for a while, removed and reinstalled, scanpst on my outlook pst file - not sure if anything is related.
Knelson,
Here is the closest I came to reproducing your problem. I tried two things. One I installed the Information Rights manager from the File menu. IRM prevents copying and forwarding the douments. Requires registering on a server. Did you have that installed? That would block them I believe, but I did not have time to register on a server so I couldn't go all the way with it.
The other thing I did was password protect a document. This DID throw an error. Are your docs password protected?
If this is not the right direction, then I would suggest going to your HELP menu in word and choosing "Detect and repair" and or check for updates..
If you find anything, let me know.
I had some major issues with JS and had to reload my pocket pc and restore all of my active sync. Now I can get all documents to sync except one that was from our attorney. They developed the document on an attorney forms program so that may be a clue.
Thanks for all your troubleshooting, but the good thing is my pocket pc runs much better.
Well, only one doc isn't too bad. You could try moving it from the mobile documents folder and then sync 3-4 times and then put it back and see what happens. However, if it uses a strict template, that may prevent it from moving.
It's probably got some script built into the doc, so that every time you open it.......it sends information back to the attorney to bill you for that time..... So you're probably better off not being able to read it on your PPC....
