Hi everyone
ive just bought a new HP IPAQ 5550. it really is nice and seems to do almost everything
my problem is this: i have pocket outlook as per Pocket pc 2003... i connected to my mail server on it once and now it just dosnt connect. it says connecting and stays like that. if i try to disconnect it just stays disconnecting and i have to close it and start it up again.
now - i can connect to other mail server. it is just MY mail server that seems to bugger it up. and my mail server is just a normal IMAP server. i can connect to other IMAP servers fine!
has anyone else had this problem or know of it?
if not can anyone suggest any other IMAP software for Pocket PC 2003? preferably freeware i coudl hardly find any....
thanks for the help
Ok,
Here's what I'd do. One, are you waiting long enough for the connection to occur? My first connect of the day could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute...
If so, I'd simply create a new account and see if it connected any better. I've had it happen where my existing account became corrupted before - it didn't throw an error or anything else, it just wouldn't connect. So I started from scratch and it all came back.
If you can report a specific error, I might be able to help more.
lol
part of the problem is that there arnt any specific errors.
i waited for 5 mins and it didnt connect. nothing in the email server logs either. no connection attempts or anything. I have tried to start from scratch many times with no success. it is very bizarre. it could of course be my server. i do run it myself but i can pick up email from normal windows clients...
thanks for you help anyway i do appriciate it
Steve,
Too early to give up I'm afraid. Let's fix this.
Are you using Wifi on your ipaq to connect? If so, your router could be blocking the connection port.
If you are using Activesync as a pass through, then another dozen things could be out of whack.
If it worked once, it can work again
lol i havnt given up i NEED this to work
now - i am just using wifi to try to connect. the same net connection my pc uses but through wifi and not a wired network so its all going through the same router. i can access the email from my pc but not through my IPAQ....
i am ALMOST considering a hard reset and start the whole device from scratch...... but not just yet lol
soryr that now a "now then, " now rather then a ""now i am" now....
i have always been using wifi and never active sync.
but i can get the net when it is docked as well.. but not my email :?
i havnt set anything up to get email over activesync.
Alright, to go back to the beginning, you say you CAN connect to other IMAP servers, just not your own. If that is the case, then I would suspect the server setup and not your Pocket PC. Maybe it is setup to require VPN? or secure ssh connection?
Be that as it may, you might try enabling POP access on the server if you have the rights to do so. Then you could just set up a pop-mail box to try and hammer it from the POP side
yeah i thought it was the server as well - i can conncet to it over the same net connection as i tried on the pocket pc. it is not set up for ssl or anything fancy like that :S as for hammering it from the pop end the same thing happens :? i think it must be my server but i cant think why it would stop connections from my pocket pc!
lol its quite bizarre.
anywaysi am setting up a packet sniffer on my server so that should trow some light on to it all
unfortunatly its just my fingers not coordinating with my brain
and an update on the original topic - my wireless access point has been borrowed for the next few days... doh!
anyways when it returns hopefully i will be able to sort this out once and for all....
still havnt found this problem. it seems to be a pocket outlook problem rather then an IMAP problem. but i can connect to pop3 so i think i will just use that
