I'm a book collector of sorts, however, my most valuable book is probably a 1st editon Sandman Comic book :? Oh well, maybe in the future I'll have a first edition signed copy of The Grapes of Wrath but if you are a serious book collector, you might just wanna go download AbeSearch, which is a freeware app for book collectors who use the Advanced Book Exchange.
Additionally, this program does "web-scraping"; it downloads the web page, then manually parses the text to extract info.
After reading this post and going to their website....I suddenly realized...I've never met or know anybody who collects books. I buy alot of books but when I'm finished I either give them to someone who I think would enjoy it or it goes in our annual yard sale..
What does one look for in the way of collecting books? Why would one book be more valuable than another? Are there different types of book collectors?

Interesting questions..of which I can answer....NONE
Actually, books would be a great thing to collect. Having a home library is something we've been working on around my house for 10+ years. Books are simply a good thing to hand down to future generations. The books I purchase are in two categories, one - the library "keeper" book or two the quick fix info book. I have a number of classics (Dickens, Steinbeck, etc.) that are hard cover with gilded pages. Are they officially collection worthy? Who knows, but they certainly look great on the bookshelf and in your hands
My 2nd category are quick fix info books. Those are things like Mastering Photoshop 7.0 That book is good for about a year, so I don't care if it is used or torn when I buy it...I just want the info then I'll sell it or throw it away.
You thinking about starting a collection?
