I have a Toshiba e805 which started having a problem (I believe) after installing Windows Mobile 2003 SE. The symptom is that when the battery runs out of power, all memory and settings on the PDA are lost.
It seems that the SW has forgotten how to talk to the PDAs NVRAM – or perhaps the NVRAM has stopped working.
At the time, I ran out of time to chase down this problem. Now however, I'd like to try to resurrect this device if possible...
Can anyone tell me:
1) Is WinMobile 2003SE the latest version of Windows 'Mobile' that works on this device?
2) I'm trying to re-install WinMobile 2003SE, to rule out user error on the last installation. Unfortunately, some of the files mentioned as required by the Upgrade Guide are no longer available - from Toshiba and according to a web search. Can anyone tell me where to find the following files?:
-> ROM file: NK--e800-x.xxxx.yyyy-wm2003se-wlan.bin
Well, so far I have not been able to complete the first step - updating the ROM.
Fyi, I'm running Windows Vista on the Laptop I'm using to update the PDA, so some of the instructions in the Upgrade Guide don't match exactly.
As per the Upgrade Guide, connected the PDA via a USB cable, then disabled USB connections in the WM Device Center. the Device Center then says the PDA is "Not Connected".
I then ran the Flash Update Tool, and selected the Boot....bin file.
The Flash Update Tool displays the error "Unable to connect to your PDA. Please check the connection between your PC and your PDA. Make sure to disable the USB connection function of Active Sync".
To test the communication between the computer and the PDA, I have tried enabling USB connections via the Device Center. It (the DC) shows that the device is connected.
If I try rerunning the Flash Update Tool while USB connections are enabled, the error message displayed is exactly the same.
In the meantime I've learned that the e800 & 805 don't use flash or NVRAM, relying instead on a second level battery.
(An unfortunately choice imho. Too bad the reviews/evalutions didn't notice/mention tihs bit.)
Does anyone have an ideas for the model/part # for the second level battery, and where the second level battery resides and how to access it? (before I start disasembling this thing
