For years, paper organizers and yellow Post-It sheets had been the two most popular ways of taking notes and reminding us of important events and appointments. Today, when a personal computer is an unalienable part of virtually every workplace, when laptops travel in every second briefcase and handhelds can be found in every third pocket, personal organizers have finally migrated to the electronic platform and changed the way we keep our thoughts organized and manage our time. If you would like to find a tool with just as much functionality as you need, offering great features for a price you can afford and featuring an interface that does not require weeks to get used to, ErgoNotes from Millepah Software Engineering may win your heart for good!
ErgoNotes was designed as a multifunctional organizer for Windows Mobile handhelds that allows users to store all of their personal information in a single location. The tree-view structure of the solution gives users fast access to the necessary information and allows to create all kinds of documents – from multi-level ToDo lists to contact lists with a fully custom structure. ErgoNotes uses XML for storing data, which makes it easy to export your information to other applications and even create applications working directly with ErgoNotes files. The structure of the data file is quite simple - the tree consists of nodes that have a title and a multi-line description. Apart from that, you can assign one of the 250 icons (broken up into thematic groups) to any tree node in order to visually categorize it.
The authors of ErgoNotes created an interface that combines visual aesthetics and ease of use. The most frequently used actions can be performed by pressing corresponding icons at the bottom of the screen, which saves time and makes working with the program highly intuitive. For better viewing experience, the software allows you to switch between portrait/landscape modes, show/hide node icons and change the size of the text window.
The new version brought about a feature most old and new users will greatly appreciate – now any node can become an alarm that will work even if the application isn’t started. You can set as many reminders as you wish – each with its own activation settings. Yet another useful feature introduced in version 2.6 is the Thumb menu, which allows you to use your fingers instead of the stylus. Finally, ErgoNotes is now supplied with a free desktop version, which has the same functionality as its Pocket PC counterpart, but is optimized for the standard PC interface. The two versions are fully synchronized, so you will not lose any changed you made in either of them.
ErgoNotes also offers the following features: a search mechanism, full data tree management, interaction with the clipboard, strong node data encryption (each node can have an individual password), text file import and the ability to send documents by email directly from the program.
