GPRS vs Medianet

Which is faster...my ISP GPRS or medianet??

currently using medianet by default, and cant connect to gprs. I am using vp3g rom and when i used HTC's before I think i was connecting to GPRS and it was a little faster.

Thanks for any help.

duh. medianet is the fastest out there. if u have an H instead of E or 3G U ARE OK. H is for hspda and is as fast as wifi or local land line

i have G but its really not that fast. if medianet is the fastest then why is a medianet plan 20 bucks a month whereas the pda plan (that supposedly cant connect to medianet) is 35 (was 50)...?

Sorry but I have to jump in here.

Ok before getting into all of a major discussion My isp is faster! Im not going to go into it fully but My isp uses a different server than MediaNet.

Media Net is available to any AT$T customer whether your using a Razor or an 8525. Where as My isp is only aviable for those using PDA's whether it be WM os or Palm or Blackberry. Since it is open to less users there is less traffic less traffic = faster downloads!

Thats it there both on same network and using the same tower, and same tech just different servers.

Oh btw using medianet and just medianet you can use that server for $20 unlimited shhhhh.

Ok well there are a few way to go about it, easiest first would probably be usings htc's network wizard and selecting AT$T

The next would be using a tweak program such as advanced configuration by shap's selecting my isp and deselecting media net and while your there I like to click always stay connected mostly for my push email and weather.

Oh and if you like my help and what I do for this site
Vote Nate for Admin so I can better help you all by being an admin it would make encoding links avialable like youtube and such so you can get an instant visual as you read my program post.

nate buddy...sorry to have ticked ya off a little bit i guess i shouldve been more detailed...

i already knew how to change from medianet and myisp.
i figured out how to do it in schaps.

but still it would just not let me connect to my isp.

i figured you might know why, i wasnt asking how to do it really i was just asking why i cant connect. sorry...

so i did google and xda search, cant find it right now...and found out when you get a new or replacement phone theyve recently been blocking isp@cingular... on it..or if you switched to the cheaper pda personal max plan they block my isp.

i tried that cab you had but all it did for me was connect to medianet, even after i made it choose cingular gprs and my isp.

so apparently you have to call and say you need my isp for vpn or something, because they wont unlock it for you if you have the pda personal max plan...i am right now connecting to medianet and theyre gonna tell me when i call on monday that my phone can not connect to medianet so i cant have that plan...um ok.

Naw man its all good you didnt upset me. Yeah if that cab. didnt work then its a network issue not a device issue. Yeah I knew this stuff would start happening it wasnt so bad at first but now since AT$T took over its gona be all down hill. They already stopped allowing you to teather your device and the unlimited plan is not so any more.

Honestly what I would do is tell them you got a new phone and sold your old one, tell them you got a regular phone and you just want to be able to use the internet to check your email. And drop the pda plan and get the mediamax plan. Thats what I would do no point of paying the extra cash if there not allowing you onto there pda server.

just got done with live chat help online with ATT..took a 2nd try but i am now connected to My ISP GPRS...

wooo is it faster. gotta love that....and the fact that its always connected is huge so everything on my today screen will now automatically update. gotta love that.

thanks for your help nate but it turns out that with new devices being delivered they block my isp on default, just had to ask to unblock it. eh its 30 bucks for my isp vs 20 bucks for mediamax, so ill just go the safe route...cuz if you have mediamax plan and somehow connect to my isp your gonna get billed, whereas they said im covered unlimited with either so with that and the speed and always connected...its 'my isp' for me.

hey dorty if i was you id just switch to medianet plan like nate said...

at first yea my isp is a little faster, and it always stays connected, (medianet didnt for me i had to connect to internet for it to start)...

but now ive noticed a few things that medianet was better for. i cannot connect to internet explorer, just opera, which i use mostly but now i cant connect to cingular cellular video.

also, i can not connect to mobitv now, even after i tried setting up to connect to medianet (now it wont even connect to medianet)...

so i want to switch it back to connecting to medianet and get that plan but i doubt theyll let me, and it woulda been nice cuz before they blocked me from my isp, so i could not connect, whereas now i might accidentally connect to it if i switch to medianet plan.

ill get in the live chat today or tomorrow and let you know how it goes

Question

Question from a Noob...

Have a Siemens SX66 (aka HTC Blue Angel) with the "new" AT&T (History: started with SX56 w/ AT&T, acquired by Cingular, bought this phone after my SX56 internal battery died, and now with current AT&T). I am still running on WM 2003 SE.

Am I able to take advantage of that MediaNet $20 plan, too, or is that just for WM5?

Thanks,
Debbie

it has nothing to do with wm5 or wm6...it has to do with what you are connecting to. when you are connected tap your E or 3 button or whatever and if it says MEdiaNet then you can get that plan. but if it is my isp then you have to get the unlimited pda plan which is 35 a month.

I've tried using the files that you included in this tread, however, it seems that they won't run on WM 2003 SE. Do you have files that I can try that do?

I want to see if my phone will allow me to use MediaNet. I also have a problem with my phone constantly (!) wanting to connect to GPRS all by itself! My phone never did this before until about 2 months ago. I have since gotten bills (the New AT&T) to the tune of $20-$30 more each month, even with a data (mMode) plan.

I tried using GB-SOFT Tweak but it hasn't helped. I now have a disconnect button and a timer that keeps track on how long I've been online, but that's really it.

That MediaNet $19.99 plan looks real attractive, but I want to be sure that I can use it.

Thanks!

Debbie

the E or 3 button i was referring to is on your top start bar right next to your signal bars. clicking on that will bring a lil pop up that says if your connected to medianet or my isp.

your using 2003 se? thats like running windows 98. upgrade upgrade upgrade.

Thanks for trying to explain. When I'm connected, I have a box with a "G" in it. It says connected to Cingular GPRS. I do not currently have an internet plan.

I'm meaning to upgrade, but there is lots I need to understand before I can do that. My carrier AT&T never offered the upgrade, so I have to try to go the unofficial route and I'm a bit technologically challenged.

Thumbs down Darned AT&T!

FYI: For those on AT&T (now I know why you type it like this: AT$T!), they now only have 2 Internet plans for PDA users...

-- $35 unlimited plan
-- $60 5GB tethering plan

That's it. There is no in-between and the MediaNet, or any other PDA plan they had, no longer exist.

thats old news

you can still get the medianet plan. you just tell them your getting a new phone like a razr or whatever and there you go you have the medianet plan..as long as your connecting to medianet on your pda you are fine. the tethering plan is using your pda as a modem connecting to ur laptop. its probly 5gb not 5mb.

Just finished upgrading to WM6 and I'm LOVING my PPC again! Without the resources here, I wouldn't have been able to do it.

Now, to get that MediaNet!

Thanks again,

Exclamation Password Won't Work After WM6 Upgrade

I'm really NOT loving it at all today...

Just upgraded my SX66 WM2003SE to WM6 last night and all was running fine. I go to charge it in the cradle and my device spontaneously reboots. Now, the password that I've had for the last 2 years won't work! I can't get into my phone after attempting both hard and soft reboots, and my phone goes directly to voicemail.

What happened and how can I correct this?

Thanks!
