I had been looking for a substitute for SPB pocket plus where the battery bar is at the very very top of the screen in a small line to show you your battery life...but SPB took a lot of space and memory, and it was pointless to have just for that use....
I also wanted a program that when you minimized a program it would put it on the start bar, just like the PC...and this does that too.
It also has a launcher and a lot of customizable settings that I haven't got into, which makes this even sweeter...
Have you tried SBSH's iLauncher? It's an awesome program. It does what you want and more. And I don't think it's resource hogging because my device still functions smoothly. I have a review on it on my site if you are interested.

I tried iLauncher awhile ago, and its basically like SPB pocket plus or HTC home...i really dont need something on my today screen that uses huge icons and takes up more than half the screen.
plus wktask is completely free, and the memory usage is minimal.
i have checked out your blog though, very nicely done...i am thinking about starting my own, hopefully a few of them under different categories, so i may be coming to you for help in the near future.
With regards to iLauncher, there are settings that you can tweak to save screen real estate and they have this feature called floating panel which is pretty cool too.
But I do agree, you can't beat wktask's price.
