I swear there has to be a way to remotely control my VISTA laptop from my iPaq 3950 while it's connected via activesync. What I want to do is keep my laptop in my saddle-bag on my motorcycle and have my ipaq mounted on my handlebars with a wired connection (since my ipaq doesn't have wifi or bluetooth) to the laptop. I'll have my GPS plugged into my laptop which will be running Google Earth (which does live tracking while connected to a GPS). While sitting in my saddle I'll be able to navigate Google Earth (and MP3 playback, etc) on my laptop from my ipaq. I did some research this weekend which seemed to show that there are lots of products for remote controlling an ipaq from a laptop, but few products for doing the reverse. I did see that RealVNC has a ppc version, but I wasn't able to get it installed and gave up when I realized (maybe falsely) that it'd only work through a TCP and not activesync connection.
any ideas?
PS: I'm also QUITE open to alternative ideas- this was just my first brainstorm that involved minimal $$ and hardware that I already have.
It makes your PDA an extension of the PC's desktop - and whatever you put on there you can access through stylus or finger taps.
Mp3 playing would probably work pretty well.
GPS might be a little trickier.
Forcing the browser window with Google Earth to display on the 3950 might work - but font size and image size would probably be too big.
I have a compact flash sleeve for my 3950 and a compact flash GPS and I can run TomTom 2 through 6 on it and it works really well.
Obviously that would be a lot more money - sleeve ($20 or so) + gps ($50 or so) + software ($100 or so) - but I use mine and play MP3s in the background without problems - so you wouldn't need your laptop at all.
So do you have some sort of wifi/edge/gprs connection card for your laptop? How is it talking to the internet while you are on the road?
