wm5 vs wm6

Hi,
I been reading a lot of post that mention wm5 and wm6 and it seem like wm6 is prefer by a lot of ppl so my question is: What is the different between them?

Well I will do my best to try to answer that question. Ok first of all the 8125 doesnt have an official update for wm6 at all, and there probably will never be. Now most roms on these phones are put together by device manufatures for service providers. So on your 8125 there are some cingular apps that just arent that good and you will notice crappy software like clearview pdf and win zip instead of adobe reader and win rar. and you cannot remove these programs as they are built into the rom.

Also since they are purchased by service providers like AT&T they lock out certain features to so you have to pay to use them, like when I bought my 8525 they want you to buy a data plan, well what if you dont want it well you cant use the phone to its full potential. Because the lock the WIFI now it says it comes with wifi but to use it, it makes you connect to there server first so they can charge you to use your wifi. Also the new TILT they have locked out the GPS and want to charge you like a dollar every time you use it unless you purchase the full plan.

So thats one thing, the other is that they dont support there devices that they sell the way they should imo. They could obviously release wm6 for the 8125 but they would rather you by a new device instead of releasing an update.

Now that was a bit of a rant but thats a good question and not entirely easy to answer shortly.

Ok now thats the service provider side of the upgrades, now on to the actual differences. WM6 is faster and more stable than WM5 sort of like the difference between Windows 2003 ce and WM5. Also there are some new features like push email, internet sharing (locked on cingular ver.),

ok, now i know the reasons for not getting wm6 from the manufactor/att but what i really want to know is different between wm5 and wm6? its like between window xp and vista(two different os) or its just a same os with additional software included.

yes you should definatly upgrade

These are just a few features that WM6 has

And to answer you question its not like a new os like Vista vs. XP but a faster more stable version of WM5 with more features.

ok first you need to cid unlock your device, and second im being lazy on forum sry it happens but ive posted 300+ post in less than 6 weeks it was bound to happen im burned out. pm me if you have a g3 device and I will walk you through it. if u have a g4 idk what to tell you. please dont pm if you dont know what device you have. figure out what device you have and i will help u if u have a g3.

nate...with the wifi hack from xda that allows the 8525 to be a wireless access point in wm5...it works great, will i lose this ability if i upgrade to htc's wm6?

but you said with wm6 internet sharing is unlocked, which right now i cant do using usb which is why i like the wifi hack...so if i can use my usb that would be fine then..but the wifi hack is pretty sweet

Just upgrade to wm6 its so easy with the 8525, you seem to be a smart person you can figure it out. search unlock hermes follow the directions then search vp3g 3.62 thats what Im running at the moment.

Yes I know how to do it, but HTC's site there is no rolling back to wm5 so I want to make sure I am doing the right thing. If I use your version, will i be voiding my phone in that I can not replace it with another 8525 since mine is having problems and i can trade it in until February.

Also will the usb tethering connection work with wm6? cuz right now it doesnt but i use the wifi hack when necessary and that works great and i dont want to lose that if it doesnt work with wm6...Thanks.

ok its real easy to roll back just down load the wm5 rom.

this will not void your warrenty as its a att supported rom.

yes usb tething works great i use it all the time.

I have a xv6700 pocket pc and I have been trying to find the usb driver to connect to my computer and I've had no luck. I'm running windows xp media center can you help me find the usb driver thanks.

hey so far i have the cingular 8125 with the default rom. i have it pretty hooked up and am satisfied with how i have it yet i wanna know if there are really necessary and compelling reasons to unlock it and upgrade to wm6. and also ive realized there are many different roms, so im wondering isnt there one that most people use? is windows live any good?

Yes it will void the warrenty, if you like your phone the way it is leave it. There is a chance of bricking your device if you dont follow the directions.

I have an iPAQ rx5915 running WM5, and I know HP will not be offering an upgrade. Anyone know if I can move up to WM6 in spite of HP?
