I did a search but I couldn't find anything. I need to set the SMTP & POP3 ports on my iPAQ 2215 but can't.
When I log on to a WiFi hotspot I can connect to the internet and download my email. But I can't send any emails. My ISP (and most others today) require you to use a different SMTP port when you connect from outside their network. Otherwise, they won't let you send emails (fear of SPAMMERS).
Here's my PPC:
HP iPAQ 2215
Windows Mobile 2003 (First Edition. No upgrade to SE available from HP).
Is there a registry hack where I can set the SMTP port to 2025 rather than the default of 25?
If not, are there any other solutions?
I guess I might have to buy another mail client that will let you set the ports. Any recomendations?
Or how about an ISP that will let you use the default ports of 25 and 110 when you are outside their network?
Has this been fixed in Windows Mobile 5? Mobile 6? I can't belive that MS would creat a mail client that is to used in a MOBILE device at many different hotspots and won't let the user configure the SMTP & POP3 ports.
Thanks!

Several replacement email clients (I know this is the case with nPOPuk and Qmail) allow you to assign port numbers within their account settings. Another option that has worked for me with Gmail is to include the alternate port number as an addition to the server information. For Gmail, my outgoing server in the Messaging inbox account settings is set to smtp.gmail.com:465 (the ':465' added to direct it to use port 465 when accessing the smtp server for outgoing mail) and that also works well. I am using this on a WM2003SE device but I think it will work with WM2003 as well.
