help ! storage memory too full

I am running WM5 on my MDA. today it started to tell my that I have a critical storage memory problem.
Using the file explorer I found several files in "my device" that should not be there one of them is 7.66M it is called pim and I can not open it (no program) and can not delete it ("erro deleting file - "cannot delete 'pim' There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination may be in use."

Can someone help?

Simple resets have not helped.
thanks
Allan

If I understand the WM5/6 architecture correctly, the pim file is the repository of the various pieces of of data from the traditional PIM applets: calendar, contacts, messaging, etc. If you delete it, your PIM pieces can no longer function.

I think the question is whether or not there is a tweak available that will let you place the file in a memory location other than the default in Main Memory.

Tweaks are changes to the default settings to optimize your device for the way you wish to use it. These are normally done through registry edits (and yes, WM runs with a registry just like big brother Windows for the desktop). There are a number of apps available that let you make these adjustments without going directly into the registry yourself since it is easy to miss a key value that needs to be changed as part of the correction set. My own favorite is Tweaks2k2 and I highly recommend it. You can check it out at Tweaks2k2.com and download a trial version. It has been one of my best investments and paid for itself many times over.

Thanks again Yankeejeep!

This sounds like the way to go -- I'll have some time in a couple of days -- I'll try then and let you know how it works out -- thanks again.

You will have to clean out the temp files on the IE and the history, that should eleviate some memory. after that, you should try closing some programs cuz if many programs are running, it messes with your memory. i tried downlonging this inclose program that actually closes the programs and not keep them running in the background. hopes this helps.

A small investment in an app like MemMaid will make the memory maintenance routine much less of a headache. You can set it to clean up the temp and cache folders as well as track down orphan files and registry entries that tend to get left behind by many uninstall processes. It also makes management of startup processes much easier.

you should not delete that PIM file but if you are trying to delete this and it won't allow you it is because the system (of your ppc) is currently using it or accessing it..
try to install a TASK MANAGER for you pocket pc to prevent programs to run in background and also try to uninstall some softwares on your phone memory and install it on your external memory...I am using a O2 XDA IIs and I bought a 4gb memory card and my ppc is running smoothly coz I never install any software on my phone memory...
