ActiveSync on the device will automatically launch when it detects connection to a host. There is also a function to have it seek a mobile connection on a preset time interval, which keeps AS running in the background to carry out the assigned schedule. To stop this behavior, open ActiveSync on the device and change the mobile schedule setting to manual.
Man I have messed with AS for hours trying to turn that thing off. Not sure why i put forth the effort...it just bubbed me. I gotta do it now. Thanks jeep
Jeep, Schedule in AS is not an option. It is grayed out. Could it be Exchange server is not set up on my PC? AS syncs like every 5 minutes. Would love to have it do it only when I tell it to. Like fergy, I have spent many hours trying to figure this out. Thanks
Julie on Mobilitysite found a workaround for HP devices that may also work for you. It involves creating a dummy server to gain access to the schedule menu selection. This should be done when your device is not connected to a host PC.
1. Start ActiveSync on your device.
2. Go to Menu...Add Server Source
3. For Server Address, use 1.1.1.1 and on the Next screen, use xxx as User Name, Password, and Domain, then tap through to Finish.
4. Go to Menu and you should now be able to select Schedule.
5. Set both windows to Manual.
6. Finally, delete the fake exchange server. Go to Menu...Option, highlight the Exchange Server, tap Delete, and respond 'Yes' to the Warning message.
The specific steps may be slightly different on your device but the genneral process should be similar.
Thanks Jeep. I had seen that "idea" before but alas it doesn't seem to work on an unlocked (SIM and CID) HTC 8125 on another carrier. I tried applying the Server solution on PPC and then the PC. No go. Any change on PC apps and off goes AS to sync.
It seems incredible that AS does not allow flexibility in the sync process. On my Palm Tungsten I hit Sync when I want it to sync. My other beef is that most 3rd party apps use native Contacts. So what happens if you use ACT! like I do and have Contacts in Outlook that you don't want in ACT!? No can do. Finally found FilePro. Great little program. "Solved" the issue.
