Hard Reset with VM6 on top of VM5

Suppose someone is installing VM6 on his/hers PPC , instead of the VM5.
Now he perform an "Hard reset" that is actually restoring the factory Software, which was a VM5. Or I am wrong ?

If you have done the reflash process to place the WM6 ROM on your device, that is now the resident OS that is stored in the protected ROM area. The original WM5 is gone. When you do a hard reset, WM6 will remain. To revert to WM5, you will need to get that ROM image and repeat the process to reflash the OS ROM area.

Thanks for the answer

I was reading all along that it is in ROM, But it seems to be in a protected Flash writable memory. That is more protected, and you can write there only in a very special way.

To install a new OS version requires you to reflash the ROM image area. It does not install like any other software. Putting WM6 onto the device will reflash that protected ROM location and replace the existing WM5 OS image with the WM6. Unlike desktop Windows upgrades, this will typically be a complete OS replacement with nothing left of the prior OS image. That is why it is important to use a ROM upgrade you are sure is intended for your device. Once flashed, it can be difficult to go back if your device is bricked by an incompatible OS ROM. A hard reset will just try to start fresh with a still-incompatible ROM and you may need to send it in for an expensive tech visit to get a working device again.
