I just purchased a Cingular 8525, for 8 years I have been using various Palm devices and have built quite a lot of information. How can I move my contact and calendar information to the 8525? What is the best PIM for the PocketPC/WM5? I use Agendus on my Palm and know it is available for the PPC, would using this ease moving the information? Thank you, Bryan
Hi Bryan, I'm a recent convert myself - and an Agendus user for the past 6 years or more. The easiest way to move your contact info to the new device is to copy all of your contacts to your SIM card and then insert that same card in your new device and "download" that information. It sounds a lot harder than it is, and you can always get the person who activates your phone to talk you through it. As far as your calendar items go, just make sure that everything you want to transfer is contained in outlook and it will be synchronized to your new device automagically the first time you do an ActiveSync (hotsync). For PIMs, as a longtime Agendus user I installed their still brand new WM version on my 8525 and wound up deleting it about an hour later. The most powerful calendar/tasks/contact manager I've come across is Pocket Informant. You can try it out by downloading it from here. It supports icons and has an unbelievable amount of options. The one disappointing thing I found was that it didn't have a desktop counterpart like Agendus does. I learned to get over that quickly. If this doesn't answer your questions, please let me know - though I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chime in shortly.
Thank you for the information on the PPC Agendus. I guess I should have mentioned that my current Palm device is a T5, so no SIM card.
My notebook PC only has Outlook Express, so can I sync the Palm to Outlook Express then ActiveSync this info to the PPC?
That part I'm not sure of, but I don't think so. I BELIEVE that only Outlook itself is supported. The good news is that your disk from Cingular will come with a copy of desktop Outlook 2002 on it. You can install that, import your addresses etc. from OE, and you should be good to go.
