Is my PDA a paper weight now?

Had to do a hard reset on my Axim X5 Advanced. It boots to the "tap screen to start set up", then the alignment screen comes up, and does the five points then starts over. It never accepts the alignment finish to go on to the rest of set up.

Tried soft boots, hard boots.

I know it's kinda old, but do they even repair this kinda thing these days?

Crisis over, thought I'd share in case anyone else hears of this.
After searching some other sites, I found several other people with this same issue. Oddly enough the solution that worked for a couple others, and myself was to use the erasure end of a pencil instead of the stylus! bizarre indeed

That is really odd. Why should that make any difference?

I think the belief is that the stylus tip is too sharp, so using something a little more blunt seems to help.

Another person said their problem was fixed when they replaced their batteries.

ok.. I think the erasure thing is bogus and it was just a freaky coincidence that it worked for me.
Tapping stopped working again shortly after, same problem came back for me on the align process. All too common problem it seems, even in later Axim models.

heres the REAL fix.. a problem that develops after a few years wear..

Yeah, that seemed really unusual, and truly doesn't make any sense. If anything, it would be better if it was more accurate I would think, since you're trying to align the screen as well as possible.

So are you now going to attempt the DIY method of fixing it?

Yes, I think so. He gives very detailed instructions and he was right about the "squeeze at the bottom" test. hah
But I can't go around with a death grip on my PDA..heh..Maybe a few stout rubberbands would squeeze it enough.

Update! Just finished surgery and the patient is in full recovery!
I could kiss the guy that posted those instructions.

I would suggest anyone that has any model of Axim save a copy of the fix instructions, its very common issue, and I say, design flaw.
