Free up storage memory?

I moved to a T-Mobile MDA from my trusty T|X a few months ago, yet one thing just baffles me...

How do I free up storage memory? I'm deleting files and things of the sort off my device, yet my Program memory increases, not my storage memory. Now the storage memory is under 5MB, and my MDA won't let me install anything on the miniSD card. The only way I've found to increase storage memory is to clear PIE history...

TIA .
