JBAssistant 0.1

Hi, i always read the forum but never posted before. So i registered today to to share a little app i made. I mainly use my QTEK for work. I like having ringtones but i was tired to have to switch off volume every time i start a meeting. I also want to be able to reply missed calls with SMS only to some people. And i also want to made my own app :

Features:
- App detect if are "busy" or "free" based on the appointments schedule.
- App can silent or set to vibrate the phone when start a meeting and restore sound when meeting ends.
- App can reply missed calls (on "busy" mode) with custom SMS and it has nice options to configure who will receibe the SMS....

Known Bugs:
1- App will start on every reboot (that´s ok), and show the main screen (just put it on background).
2- App will change ringer mode (silent, vibrate, ringtone on) but will not update default upper right volume icon.

Hope someone find this app usefull too.....Any comments will be appreciate...

- I only tested it on WM6. I think it should works fine on WM5, can any one try it there?
- You will need NETCF 2 before installing my app (check it, may be you already have it):

thanks

Español: RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

New 0.5 version:
- App. will now apply settings also to sms and voicemail.
- App. saves settings when enters busy mode, and restore them when going to free mode.
If u have for example this setup:
PDA Settings:
- Phone Ring
- Text Message Vibrate
JBAssistant Settings:
- Silence Phone checked
Behaviour will be:
On Busy Mode:
- Incoming Phone calls and Text Messages will not ring or vibrate.
On Free Mode:
- Incoming calls will ring and text messages will vibrate.

- On free mode, "ringer:" will be "PDA Settings" to better comunicate current setttings for text, phone and voicemail.
- When exit the application on "busy mode", phone, voicemail and text sound settings will be restore to PDA settings saved before entering "busy mode".

- Note: Application saves your current settings before entering busy mode and restore them when entering free mode. Because of that, you can freely change settings when application is in free mode, but if you do it when application is on busy mode, settings will be reverted to the original values (those before entering busy mode) when entering free mode. If you are busy, don't loose time playing with phone settings ....

0.4 Version:
- Fixed a bug introduced in version 0.3 (sorry for that one when restoring sound after some meeting ends.

0.3 version:
- Added option to ignore meetings with "free" status
- Icon on trybar when app is running.
- New (and nicer) application icon.

hmm

I installed it on my device (Cingular 8125) and I try to open it. This is what comes up.

"This application (JBAssistant.exe) requires a newer version of the Microsoft(R) .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.

|Details| |Quit| "

Of course I press details and this pops up.

"JBAssistant.exe
InvalidProgramException

|Quit| "

What do I do?

Thanks.

framework

hi, thanks for trying my soft. Maybe you don't have the Compact Framework 2.0. It's a one time install and will enable you to run any .net applicactions. You can install it on the SD if you prefer.

Here is the link:
Download details: .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 Redistributable

If this is no the case, pls provide more datails of your windows mobile version and phone model....

thanks!

ok, I got it, but wtf is SMS

Edit: Omfg. This is my third time to edit and the last two edits were long. I click Post and I get a blank reply screen :P. But seeing how Im having to retype every time im just going to sum it up.

Silent phone - Is that no ring and no vibrate?
SMS - What is reply with SMS :P

------------
My girl friend calls me at 6:45 every morning to wake me up for school so I have to leave my ringer on. Some times I forget to put my phone on silent before I go to school though. I have every 5 day week of school set from 8 am - 3:30 pm as busy and I checked the silent phone in hopes that from 8 - 330 my phone will silent itself. Will it go back to ringer by itself at 3:30 or do I have to do it?

- when "silent phone" is checked: no ring and no vibrate. If u also checked "vibrate" the phone will vibrate when someone calls you. If u want no sound and no vibrate just only leave checked the "silent phone" option.
- Reply with SMS: if u wan't to let the caller know that you are busy the application can automtically send a text message (you you can customize that message). You have to enable the "Reply with SMS", and at least one of the options inside the "customize..." button (this options manage who is enabled to receive the text message...maybe you only want to reply to a few people). This option has nothing to do with the ringer.

- yes, at 8AM the phone will be set to "silent" and at 3:30PM the phone will go back to ring. First day u can check this within the applicaciont. Look at the red bar that says "statys" and "Ringer"...at 8am will tell you "busy" and "off"...and at 3:30 "free" and "on"...

It's recomended that you uninstall the current version and use version 0.3.

Pls let me know if all works as expected!

thanks!

bug

great!...I used version 0.3 today and i works great!. I recomended to leave the applicaction executed before sleep...the just forgot it...

I found a bug on current version: when the phone enter "free mode" (when some meeting ends, in your example will be at 3:30PM) the sound will be reverted to the standard windows ringtone instead your previous ringtone

i will post a .04 version in a few minutes to fix this.

verion 0.4

Already uploaded version 0.4. Check post #2.

Because the soft is still beta (although it works nice this days i tested it), pls be sure to take this steps:

- Unisntall version 0.3
- Check that currently there is no meeting in calendar
- Install version 0.4
- manually execute the application
- Click the option "silence phone" (and any other option you want)
- Send application to background by clicking on the upper right "x". You should see a calendar icon on the botton of the today screen indicating that the application is running.
- go to sleep and hopefully your girlfrind will wake you up and your phone will no ring at school!

thanks!

don't worry...may be just my bad english...probably i didn't express well what i wanted to say (may be even this phrase is not correct grrrr, i must practice my english)....

no need to modify anything from your calendar....and also be sure that the application does not modify anything from your calendar...the worsest thing that may happend is that your phone ring at school...just tell the teacher i 'm sorry

pls give the application 5 minutes (more or less) to detect the start/end of appointments. In your setup at 8:00 to 8:05 am you should see the red bar saying "Status: Busy" and "ringer offff"...

thanks!

I put my phone on vibrate just incase this morning before I went to school.
So I got to school and I checked my volume, it was still on vibrate. But I checked the JBassistant calender and it said
Status:Busy
Ringerff (or silent, I forget)

So even though my phone says vibrate, your program takes over and it's really on silent? Or is it just not working right now?

And in your next update you can make it say "Silent" or "Vibrate" in the sound status (the icon at the top of the phone that lets you control the volume, or if its on vibrate"

great...if u where at school and status says "busy" and ringer "off" it means the application detected the meeting and apply the right settings. Can u also confirm that at 3:30 the status return to "free" and "on"?

Answering your question: it's like you said:

application will take over it and it was really on silence mode even if u don't see that on the windows sound icon. Remember that the sound icon is not an application icon, it's a windows mobile icon. I m trying to find a way to also modify that just to don't generate that confusion.

if u want to see whats happening behind the scene, just to be sure all is working find, you can also leave checked the "log all actions" option and tomorrow after school look at the file jblog-XXX.txt on Program Files\JBAssistant. You can transfer the file to your PC to read it more confortable.

But based on what u said, it seems that all is working as expected. Maybe u can tell someone to call in school time just to see the missed called and no sound on the phone...

or if u want to manually test it by forcing busy and free mode pls do the following:
1- For this example let assume its 09:00 PM and JBassistant is still running.
2- Open calendar a create a new appointment with starting time 8:30PM and end time 9:30 PM (or any hour after 9:10)....
3- Check JBAssistant main screen...you should see "busy" and "off".
4- Call you from another phone and will see the call with no sound...
5- delete the recently created meeting
6- Check JBAssistant main screen...you should see "free" and "on".
7- Call you from another phone and will see the call with sound...

I didnt check my phone till about 9:00 and it was Busy and off
I checked my phone at 3:40 and the status was Free and On.

So that part works fine.

I was going to try today at school, but no on ehad there phones, or they were out of batteries :P.

With this application you have to leave your phone on ring or else it wont work I found that out. If your phone is on silent but your status is "free" and "on", it does not take over, Your phone will still be silent.

Also, if you're thinking of making this application even BETTER you can:

Make this application also work for text messaging. When I want my phone to silent for calls when Im busy, I would also like it to silent my text messages . Today I got a text message right in the middle of school and it viborated...really loud. Or you can make them both vibrate, which ever option you choose at the time.

P.S. This is an AWEsome program! Thanks!!

thanks! at least i know i now have one user nearly happy with the app.!

if u have the phone at vibrate or sound off and you start the application, (assuming that there is no active appointment) the application will start on "free mode" with "Ringer: On" on the red bar. But really the phone is set to vibrate or sound off. Just as you discovered. But if then the application goes into "busy mode", when the app. returns to "free mode" will effectivly enable the ring. So what your are telling is true for the first time the application loads. Once the application goes into busy mode and then return to free mode will enable the ringer sound.

I am thinking what to do with that. Vote an option:
1- When application starts (always assuming no active appointment at start-up because app will enter "busy mode" directly), it will save current state (vibrate or ringtone) and use that option when returning from "busy mode" to "free mode". So if phone was on vibrate when app. loaded, and then phone goes to busy mode changing it to silence, app will then return phone settings to vibrate when enters free mode (on todays version will enable ring).
2- When application starts on free mode, it will always change phone settings to ring. (today the app. just don't change anything when start in free mode)

The idea is to completly shutdown the phone sound on "busy mode". Now that all is working as expected i will try to make a version 0.5 with text messaging and voicemail notifications included when app goes to busy mode....

-Can you pls tell me what version of windows mobile you are using?
- My native language is not english, so if you find something writed wrong on the application pls tell me the right way to write it.
- Dont' forget to vote option 1 or 2.

thanks!

ok, now correct me if im wrong, but this is what I got.

ASSUMING THAT THE PHONE IS CURRENTLY IN RING:

1- When you start the application it will save your current state (ring).
You will enter the appointment at 8:00 am and the phone will go directly to slient, making it where if you recieve a text message, voicemail, or a call, it will be silent and nothing will be heard. Now once you get out of your appointment at 3:30 pm the phone will go to its recent saved state (ring) and everything will ring again.

I dont care about Number 2. I like it better where I can have it on ring - silent - ring OR vibrate - silent - vibrate.

Stick with Number 1!

I am using Windows Mobile Version 5.0

Thanks!

This is the test I ran.

------------------------------------------------

TEST ONE - JBAssistant beta 4.0

It is 7:21 on my phone.

I made an appointment for 7:23 to 8:23 as busy.
Then I called my phone to see if it would ring, it did.

At 7:23 the status did not change to busy
At 7:25 the status still did not turn to busy

So I just gave up

It still says "status:free" "ringern"

------------------------------------------------------------------

TEST TWO - JBAssistant beta 4.0

It is 7:25 on my phone.

I made an appontment for 7:30 to 8:30 with the status as busy.
I called my phone to see if it would ring, it did.

At 7:30 the status did not change to busy
At 7:33 the status still did not change to busy

So I just gave up

It still says "status:free" "ringern"

-----------------Last Test---------------------

TEST THREE - JBAssistant beta 4.0
I figure I will start an appointment in the middle of what time it is.

It is 7:35 on my phone.

I made an appontment for 7:00 to 8:00 with the status as busy.
I called my phone to see if it would ring, IT DIDN'T!

Status was "Status: Busy" "Ringer: off"

---------------End Test---------------------------

Why didn't it take my status to busy on the first two tests? .. it works for when I go to school though.

So the last test was succesful, and I showed that it worked when I go to school, so that was succesful.. I just wonder why the other two tests didnt work... oh well..

Thansk!

Well my friend, the truth is: i really don't know ...
I ran a lot of tests when i started the development and i noticed that behavior, but i didnt' found how to fix it (yet).
It's the first thing we all try with this app (create an appointement within the next few minutes...why people dont' want to wait 15 minutes to see it work?...just kidding), but unfortunatly it gives a bad idea of what the application does... ;(

Apparently if the meeting starts a few minutes after starting the application, does not work for only that first meeting. Try it with an appointment that starts 15 minutes after you ran the application (i never was too patience so you will tell me what happend).
But be sure that for appointments starts after does few unknown "black" minutes app will work just as it did when u where at school.

leave it as a known bug for now. The idea is to just leave the application running so this don't have to boder so much..

Sorry, I didn't under stand this..

"But be sure that for appointments starts after does few unknown 'black' minutes app will work just as it did when u where at school."

Are you saying that you have to start an appointment way after what time it is now.

it's 8:35 so I made an appointment for 9:00 - 10:00

Yes, it worked..

Well, now we know that you have to wait more than 5 minutes but less than 26 minutes for it to work.
