is there anyway to make the "today" screen like the desktop on my computer. by that i mean actual shortcut icons that i can use instead of the start button?
You might also want to take a look at Resco File Explorer. In addition to the registry and file utilities, it includes a Today plug-in that lets you place shortcuts on the Today screen.

Would you say WisBar replaces SPB PocketPlus?
I've an 8525 issue with Messaging.
It most often REFUSES to start (and DISPLAY its screen) from the #1 key (or ay other launch button) UNLESS Messaging is resident.
More expansive, I cannot be 'cuz unable to nail down the executing environment that is causing the problem. First, I thought it was ActiveSync, then SPB PPC3, but no longer think so. Actually, it "seems" to be the Today screen in a loop. Replacing it with WisBar is next.
I've never tried Wisbar Desktop, I've only used their Wisbar Advance menu bar skinning program.
I have used SPB Pocket Plus and though it was useful, I didn't like how it cluttered my today screen (there's precious little real estate as it is!) and so i basically just use SmallMenu which works fine for me. I have the start button mapped to a hard key, and from there it's just one or two clicks right or down to launch an app.
