Question Oldie but goodie? Troubleshooting

I recently took my Pocket PC 2003 out of the drawer, restored the programs and away I went. Was able to "play" on it for a little time, charged it up and brought it to work. When I went to use it at work it would not turn on. Brought it home, plugged it in and it will not charge (the on/off button light does not light), plugged it into the computer and Active Sync does not see it? Any suggestions/ideas OK OK, other than get a new up-to-date one.

Try a soft reset?

The battery might just be completely dead and unable to hold a charge...

What device is it exactly, PP2003 refers to the operating system...Ipaq? Jornada? L00x? etc.

BTW, Welcome to the forums!

It is an IPAQ. A soft reset...is that the small button on the side? I did try to push that in and nothing.

My first thought was totally dead battery but....I never used it too much but sitting for 1 1/2 years still may have done havoc on the battery?

Yes, even when the device is off the battery sloooowly drains.

Soft reset - there should be a little divot somewhere on the device, accessible only with the stylus. a quick press will restart it as long as there's juice in the battery...

If a soft reset does not work, there is something you can try, though it would at best result in a hard reset. Remove the main battery for a couple of minutes then re-insert it, making sure it clicks firmly into place and see if it will then charge.

Even though you did not use your device, maintaining the RAM required a slow trickle of power which slowly drained the battery. Lithium batteries do not like being totally drained and as Brain has mentioned, yours may have been damaged by that process. Whenever storing your device for a prolonged period, make a complete backup of the device (to a memory card or to your host desktop PC), and remove the main battery.

If your battery has been damaged by the draining process, you can probably get a replacement online from eBay or a commercial site like batteries.com.

update....still help needed

New battery in, when plugging in to charge the light at the top of the screen does not blink...telling me it is not getting any type of connection. Even when plugged into AC will not turn on. Soft reset...nothing happens. Any suggestions? Every thing sounds solid when I shake it...it has never dropped, never extreme temperatures....
