SBP or Sprite?

basically the only thing that i am worried about is saving my text messages, after hours of searching for an easy answer to do this i have found almost nothing. I have over 16,000 messages that i need to save, i believe i have found the files for the out going messages but not the incoming. If i use SBP or sprite will it give me the option to save my texts onto my laptop? if both do which one would you guys recommend?

There is usually an option to backup your entire device - although you may not be able to back up only your text messages, you will be able to restore them should you experience some kind of catastrophic failure.

I do not think either has a desktop-side companion app that can retrieve info from their files, and your question seems to be how you can get the items over to your laptop.

I suggest you connect to your laptop using ActiveSync and use the AS interface to do a full backup, which will create a file on your laptop with the .stg extension. I have seen (but not at the moment recall a name) of a free PC-based app that lets you extract files to the PC from a backup (STG) file. This might be the only practical way to do what you seem to want to do.

Here's one, these guys seem to like it, but it costs $15US.

Then there's TreasureMyText, which is free except for standard SMS fees to a UK number...so unless you are in the UK, this one's not gonna be financially feasible...

Here's some freeware, install at your own risk...here's another one

Again, a warning - I did not try any of the programs in this post, so proceed with caution!

Good links, Brain. I suspect many active messagers will find one of them to be what they have been looking for.

You can customize your backups. You can't just get text messages but you will get all your messages (email, text, mms). The beauty of spb is that it creates an executable, just click on the file and it restores whatever you have backed up. I don't recommend that you do system files of different roms but you can do messages and pim from different roms. The best way to deal with contacts though is push email.

I played with a hacked version of sprite and it was alot of work. With SPB, your backup is an executable...save it to your SD Card and click on it when you need it....no activesync involved........at all!
