I have reformatted my laptop that had a partnership with my x51v. After reinstalling Active Sync, I tried to sync my ppc. The software told me that I am already syncing with another computer (my old partnership that was olost with reformatting.) I set up a new partnership, but cannot sync my Outlook email because it is set up to sync with my old partnership. Any ideas on how to delete the old partnership that does not exist?
I looked at that, as the old computer partnership name is listed along with the new one. The problem is that all of the options in the menu are greyed out and not available. Thanks for the suggestion! Jerry
There is an option on ActiveSync on your pc to delete the old device.
File > Delete mobile device.
[edit] Actually, since you reformatted your laptop, that option is probably greyed out too, huh.
Hmm. When you connect the phone to the pc and try to set up a new partnership, is there an option to delete the old partnership?
Unfortunately everything related to the reformatted partnership is greyed out. I can get into the current partnership, but cannot change the email setting as the handheld has it associated with the old partnership. This has been a tough one. I am beginning to suspect, after several days of searching, that I will have to do a hard reset and start from scratch. Jerry
Hey all! Thought this was just about the most informative site around for the PPCs. I think I found a soulution to the ActiveSync problem. I was acutally on here for the same reason, and this is what I did, and it seemed to work.
I had installed the ActiveSync software earlier and had to wipe and reload yesterday. The PC was named in the process (origionally the PC was using the default name for ActiveSync)
I went into ActiveSync on the Cingular 8125 (I know you have a different model phone, but the program can't be too different) itself and selected Menu. Selected Options. In the Options menu there were two sets of profile lists for sycing items. I selected the second computer profile's title (I believe it was "WindowsPC") and clicked the Delete button. This removed the profile from the previous computer on the 8125. Now I have only the new profile on the home menu in ActiveSync when I look at it.
Now that I go back to make sure the steps are right, the Options menu is greyed out. Im not sure why, but I know the steps worked before. I sure hope this helps.
While you can sync your device with two computers, one will be the primary partnership and email can only be synced with the primary. The device recognized the reformatted PC as a second (and secondary) partner, so email could not be synced.
The first time you connected to the reformatted PC, you should have been asked about creating a partnership and then if you wanted it to be the device's primary, which would delete the existing primary partnership on the device. In this situation, you would want to make the new partnership the primary so you can sync email. The only way to correct the situation after the fact is the delete the old primary partnership from the device as suggested above so that you can force a new primary setup.
