Volume/ vibrate problem

I have an unlocked TyTN using a Cingular sim. How do I set the alarm and ringer to vibrate? I want to see notifications and callers, but I don't want any volume (during meetings, for example). It seems that if I set the phone volume on vibrate the notification volume is still audible even if the slider is all the way to the bottom. The only way to have no sound is to turn both off.
