i asked the same question a lil while back as well. and Tim came through for me, hopefully it works for ya.
To answer your question about MP3 files as tones, you can! All you have to do is open ActiveSync with your phone connected, click on Explore, and then navigate to \Windows\Rings and put your MP3s (or WMAs) in there. Then just go to the Phone application on your device and the MP3 should be listed. Something to note however, MP3s will not work for SMS or E-mail alerts unfortunately. If you want to have a custom sound for those tones you'll need to upload a WAV file in the same "Rings" folder.
I just open Explorer on my desktop, found my phone and found the folder he mentioned. The drag and drop doesn't work but copy and paste worked great to get mp3's to the folder.
what kind of wav file are u looking for...i think u can find all kinds of ring tones on the net...you might even be able to google some..im not to sure...can anyone else help??
You couls always use Ringo from electric pocket. This allows you to use MP3's afor ringtones and for SMS. In addtion you can assign ringtones to groups or individuals. Easy MP3 loaction and addition. Even loads MP's from the memory card. Better handling of 'tunes' for ringtones too. No need to locate tunes in the 'ring' folder.
I thought I was able to, I tried it yesterday it worked perfectly for me when I placed my .mp3 in the sound`s folder. Then today I tested with my other phone by callin it and it didnt work. The only way it rings a sound is if I set a default ring. But when I used a custom ring for n assign user it doesn`t come up with the ring tht I setted them to. I`m going to test out ringo maybe it`ll work hopefully.
Well guys, sad to say I tried Ringo and it doesnt work either. For some odd reason, it rings my custom default ringtone instead of my custom friend ringtone instead. Is there any reason to that, its the same for ringo or just doing it from the ppc itself. I`m computer literate enough to know wht to do, but this just sinks my mind! Any help would be appreciated if availble.
lol cool, well you could do the rest of the guys who haveing the same problems as you a favor by tell them what you did, cuz thats whats this forum is bascily about.
