Can't see video with Windows Media Player 10

I've got a couple of Microsoft webcasts which are .wmv files. They play fine on my laptop on Windows Media Player 10, but on my MDA Vario running Windows Media Player 10 Mobile I can hear the sound but can't see the video. The player just shows the title information.
The sample files play ok, with the video displayed.
I can see all the properties and the video codec is 'Windows Media Video 9 Screen'.
I'd be grateful for any help on this problem,
JUser

hmm... my quick guess is that the webcasts are huge (like the 300k version). Maybe you could get a more compress webcast for your device? Let us know!

Welcome to Pocket PC Addict BTW!

I've found out some more from a newsgroup, but no solution. It seems to be a problem with the codec used.

I'd still be interested to hear from any that has cracked this problem.

Thanks

Why not try other player like the TCPMP which you can get it for free at our download sections.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding TCPMP.

Before I try installing it can you confirm whether or not it supports the codec, which is "Windows Media Video 9 Screen", details here :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ecs/video.aspx

I can't find anything definitive about this on the web.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Julian

I think that WMV9 was supported in TCPMP 0.70. Check out the changelog for TCPMP here:

From reading comments on other sites I don't think WMV9 is the same as "Windows Media Video 9 Screen".

Windows Media Video 9 Screen is optimised for showing static screens and slides/presentations, and doesn't seem to be commonly supported in mobile media players.

I suspect TCPMP doesn't support it either as it's not mentioned in the list.

juser:

Have you gave it a shot anyway? I recommend having TCPMP on and Pocket PC because it will prove useful someday!

I agree with Tim, Another advantage is you can even installed it on your Storage Card, now that saves you some space in your precious memory.

I've now installed TCPMP, the latest version v0.71

Unfortunately I'm worse off than with the MS media player, as it won't play the audio either !!

There are two error messages saying that the player doesn't support the audio codec (Windows Media Audio Voice) or the video codec (Windows Media Video 9 Screen).

Do I need to install these codecs separately ? I can't seem to see any mention of this on the TCPMP site ?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Julian

You better check the available codecs for TCPMP Player and install them too. You might want to ask Tim about where to get the other codecs i believe he post the link somewhere here at the forums.
