Angry Cingular 8125 Drivers?

Hello everyone, I have done some searching around here, and othe sites, and I still can't find an answer...

I got this phone off craigslist, and the person who sold me it did not give me the CD, so Im trying to connect my phone to the computer but every time I plug it in tru USB, it asks for the driver... I know some of you didn't have to install any drivers, or you guys used the CD that came with it... but would anyone know where I can get the drivers from? Already search the Cingulars site and nothing... can't find anything anywhere!

Any info would help me alot! Thank you.

BiGGie!

Hi! let me be the first to greet you welcome to Pocket Pc Addict..
Thats a nice pocket pc phone you got there. To answer your question about the driver you might want to first Install Active Sync 4.2 the newest version, then coonect your pocket pc it will automatically detect it and will make a new partnership between the two.
Let me know if this helps... good luck...

Murduck

Thanks for the greet Murduck,

Still haven't used the phone like I wanted, still trying to get in unlock to get it working with my service. I already installed ActiveSync, and for some reason it still can't find the phone, it trys to look for it but nothing. I first plug in the phone with the cable, Windows trys to look for driver and nothing... then I try to run ActiveSync, and since windows didn't find the driver of the phone, it acts like it's not there... wierd... =(

Try right clicking on My Computer, going to Manage, and then Device Manager. If you see soemthing with an exclaimation point or question mark then right click on it and click update driver (this is with the Cingular 8125 plugged in and ActiveSync installed of course). Let me know what you see...

Tim,

I have a question mark on "Generic RNDIS" this would be the one from the phone, since when I plug it in, this is what the computer is looking for. I did try update the drivers by pointing it to the ActiveSync folder, there is a folder named "drivers" pointed it there, and I got this:

The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.

Hope that helps.

Do an automatic search, don't point it to that folder... It should pick up the drivers on its own...

Oh I already did the automatic search, just really wierd it can't find anything... So Im thinking Im going to need the CD, or maybe try to connect it tru Bluetooth? But it might also try to look for the driver...

Would anyone have the CD? maybe just send me the drivers from there?

this might be a long shot but try plugging it into another USB port on your computer. And you have to make sure you have at least ActiveSync 4.0 installed on your computer as well.

The drives are included in the ActiveSync package, not the CD. There's not much on the CD but the manual and ActiveSync...

You could try Bluetooth, but the connection is not nearly as fast or stable and it could take a while to setup.

BiGGie:
I hate to be a spoilsport, but I think you should go one more step than what Tim suggested, and start from zero.
That means
a) uninstall Active Sync from your PC, and then reinstall it
b) do a hard reset of your PPC (yes, I know you'll lose what little data you've managed to put on it, but it's probably worth the headache);
c) Take out the mini SD disk, if you've got one
d) Run ActiveSync, and then plug the unit into a DIFFERENT USB port, letting ActiveSync do all the detecting and installation work.

I hope this helps and I hope your unit gets connected!

I'm with Manny on this, starting from the beginning is probably the best idea for you. Lose the data, it doesn't like it'd be the biggest sacrifice.

Well I did a hard reset on my phone, and plug in the usb to a diffrent port, and did all what you guys said, and still nothing... this sucks...

I do have 4 computer here in my office, and well I installed ActiveSync on all over them, and then went to plug in the phone, and I still got the 'looking for driver' crap... I have no idea what else to do... =(

Hello all... I'm having the same problem with my 8125, however, it only started after i upgraded the ROM to the latest version. At this point, the only thing i can get the device to do on the sync cable is charge. I am able to connect my Treo 700w to it and sync and install software, but just not the 8125...

I know this doesn't help much, but i just want to let you know you're not alone.

Chaos:
Sounds like the ROM upgrade didn't work... did you back up your old ROM? (I hope so)
Tim has a sticky note on how to restore your back-up ROM... otherwise, call your ROM provider and ask them for tech support...

Let us know what is going on, OK?............. Manny

biggie, i have an 8125(that i'm writing this on) try contacting htc customer support on their website www.htc.net or get the cd from whoever you bought it from. if that doesnt work then maybe there was a reason someone was selling it.also i can see if i can get them off my cd and send it to you. its really a cool phone once you get it working. just dont load up a bunch of crappy programs on your today screen like i did, and it should work great.

Hello. I have the cingular 8125 and I was trying to run the chess program "pocketfritz 2." When I put the disk into my notebook computer it loads the program, then goes to this "add/remove programs" window where pocketfritz is not listed. It says that if the program is not listed then it is not compatible (or something like that). I dont understand though, since pocketfritz 2 is said to be compatible with windows mobile 5.0. Does anyone know anything about any issues between pocketfritz and the cingular 8125? thanks

OK folks...I've got mine working... Biggie, i hope this works for you..

Went and re-downloaded the ActiveSync 4.2
Uninstalled the current version (although it was 4.2)
Installed it (with the 8125 plugged into PC)
Tried to connect but this didn't work. So at this point (with the PPC still connected to the computer) i did a hard reset on the 8125.
When the format completed and the 8125 rebooted, it came up and ActiveSync asked me to create the partnership.

Since i only had one app installed (so that i can get corporate email) i haven't lost much. once i re-install that app, i'll get my contact list back, and i'll be able to sync it with my local pc.

All is well... C1

Click <stopwatch started>.

New 8125 user attempting to sync. This new toy replaces a long line of iPAQs (h6315, 2215, 1910, 3975) and Palms.

First attempt ... uh, Bueller? Bueller? Sounds like I'll follow Chaos' advice next. Wish me luck!

OK, check time stamp. Done. (Well, maybe less an hour watching Serenity).

Tried 4 or 5 times overall. Finally went to Control Panel and checked Network Connections. Noticed an old CISCO VPN setting - despite being disabled, I thought I'd double check and make sure it was uninstalled. It wasnt', so I did, and BINGO!

Now, on to making it like my h6315. I'll post software insights in another group.

Thanks for listening.

Try reinstalling activesync and doing a reset on your device, also what rom did you install? Check the rom thread and see if someone else is having the same issue. Let me know what rom and whether or not this worked or not and I can help you further.
