Seems that activesync 4.1 with windows mobile 5 cannot sync files wirelessly to my server. Does anyone know a workaround or know of third party software that might solve this problem?
I should have been more clear - I am connecting via the wireless broadband EVDO inherent in the sprint ppc6700 - which connects to the server, not to my local machine.
The only way that your Sprint PPC6700 can sync wirelessly via EV-DO is if you have Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server installed somewhere on your network and you are using it. Unfortunately it seems that syncing wirelessly in this way is only available to companies that have this technology... If you want to try this type of syncing out and you don't have an Exchange server, I would recommend using mail2web as they offer a FREE e-mail service based on Microsoft Exchange. Check it out here:
Thanks for your post Tim. I am using exchange server, and have no problem synchronizing emails. The problem is in syncing files. I use excel files a lot, and want to keep the files synched on both the server and the PDA. When I connect to my laptop via the supplied cable Activesync sychronizes the excel files on connection , but when I sync wirelessly to the server, there is no option to sync files. Microsoft intentionally disabled this functionality for security reasons. I'm looking for a workaround.
Have you tried using Avvenu or SoonR? Both offer free solutions to accessing your files from your desktop computer. It works like a charm, however there is no auto sync option to your Pocket PC. If you subscribe to their premium service they will sync your files to their server so you can access them even if your computer is off. Try them out... if not I can see if there is another solution out there for you.
