Spb Pocket Plus and now a slower Cingular 8125?

I've had my Cingular 8125 for 3 days now. After installing Spb Pocket Plus it seemed maybe a tad slower, now as time goes on it seems slower and slower. Especially the camera, when I first used the camera the image draw rate on the display was virtually free of trails and smooth as could be, now it jumps ALL over the place and trails like crazy. Could this be from Spb Pocket Plus?

Also, I am receiving a 2GB miniSD in a couple days and was wondering if there is anyway to alter the balance between the Main Storage and Main Program memory so that it'd all be available for Program (this should be better?)? Finally, what's with the fact that total Main memory only adds up to like 90 somethin MB? Supposed to be 128MB SDRAM and 64MB FLASH. Where's my other 30MB of memory going?

Mr_M83:

Congratulations on your new Cingular 8125 purchase. As far as performance issues go after installing Spb Pocket Plus, I have a few questions:
  • Have you installed any other programs on your 8125?
  • When was the last time you performed a soft reset?
  • Is your camera's ambiance set to "Night mode?" (This could be the cause to the jittering)
And because you have a 2GB miniSD card now and you plan on leaving the card in your 8125 at all times, I would recommend installing all your programs on this card from now on. In fact, I'd uninstall any programs you have installed on your device and install them on your card. You can do this by going into ActiveSync, then going to Tools, and Add/Remove Programs. Uncheck all the programs you've installed and then hit OK. This should remove all the programs you have manually installed on your device. Once that is complete open the Add/Remove Programs box again but this time uncheck the "Install program into the default installation folder" option. After doing this, check all the programs you want to install and it should ask you where you want to store the programs. At this point you should choose "Storage Card", rather than "Main Memory." The biggest tip I can tell you is that you should leave as much free memory on your device as possible.

One last thing to note about storing programs on your miniSD card. Performance might be a bit slower at opening because your 8125 needs to copy the program temporarily onto your main memory before loading. So that should explain the performance issue when running programs off the card. With that said, I would probably keep programs like Spb Pocket Plus and other utilities that you need access to all the time in Main Memory. That shouldn't take too much space.

Lastly, the although the specs state 128MB RAM and 64MB ROM, you are never going to get that much space. You do in fact have this memory capacity on your device but some of it is reserved for the OS (Windows Mobile 5.0) and the rest for programs that are running the the background.

I hope this helps, please tell us how it goes and if you have any other questions, or if I was not clear.

Have fun!

Thank you very much for your assistance. Unfortunately none of these suggestions have brought about any positive results. I have also run the "clear storage" option which, from my understanding, formats the onboard storage, clears all settings, and reinstalls/sets up the phone/pocket pc. I had thought that a virus may be at fault but I installed AirScanner and it found none. Very strange how load times on a "fresh" pocketpc without any installs still lag bad. Text Messaging, Media Player, Pocket IE, Settings Menu, Memory Menu. Everything. I have also noticed that 1 of my 240x320 pixels is bad (always off, or red). Wonder if I happened to get yet another defective phone from Cingular. Last time they replaced my 6800 with a 6820 the battery went bad in 1 day, then the new battery became virtually useless over a monthes time.

Unfortunately you might have has a bad one out of the bunch. I'd get an exchange, especially if there is a bad pixel. Let us know if Cingular will work with you on this!

I followed your instructions but when I tried to reinstall them, the box you said to uncheck was grayed out -- could not activate it.

Maybe I did something wrong but anyhow had to do the reinstall the hard way.

One more thing, is as you and others say that the pocket pc usually makes a copy of the programs installed on it to the PC, where are they stored?

I'm sorry you are having trouble jerrbitt. However, to answer your question, Pocket PC programs are usually installed at C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync. If you can't find the program in question there, then it might be in a custom folder.
