I have a question for all of yous. Is there a software program other than winamp that can easily and quickly sort all your network music (music on a networked hard drive) and have an easy playlist editor that creates playlists that can be moved around on different systems?
For example, I have a lot of my m4a music mirrored on my portable wireless hard drive. I then use my Axim's wireless ability to plug into that networked hard drive and play off of it.
The neat thing with winamp is that I simply drag all the networked music folders into the "library" section in winamp, and it sorts through all the music. I then create playlists that can be used in my axim, my main computer, and any other computer on my network.
The main drag, however, with winamp, is that it takes FOREVER to sort just ONE album from my wireless hard drive (even though it's hardwired into the network).
I'm hoping it's just a coding problem with winamp, and if you know of an alternative program I can use to read and create playlists for M4A (also known as AAC) files, it'd be great if you told me
More details on my particular application is this. I have all my M4As on my main desktop/multimedia computer. I also have those same M4As on my portable wireless hard drive (WL-HDD).
With the hard drive connected to the network with my main computer, I "dragged and dropped" all the music on my WL-hDD into WINAMP so that I could easily create playlists and play them on other computers (because winamp links each song to their particular location on the hard drive. . .for example "//WL-HDD/part1/Radiohead/Airbag.m4a") This means I can play this playlist anywhere on the network.
I then take this portable hard drive with wireless capability into my car. I have the playlists I created on my main computer, automatically synced to "My Documents" on my Axim x51v. With the wireless hard drive on in my car, I then use the wireless capability to connect to the hard drive (with the aid of Resco's network hard drive mapping capability), and open the playlists I had originally created on my main computer.
Winamp works fine. . . but it just takes a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG time for it to "categorize" songs off of my WL-HDD in m4a format. Either a fix or an alternate, quicker program would be appreciated.
