Anyone know how to keep from the pocketPC (specifically a Dell Axim x51v and h1945) from automatically turning on when plugged into a cradle?
For example, I have my Dell plugged into my cradle, and it seems to only power when it's plugged in while being off. But if I wait long enough, the pocket PC will just automatically self power up (as though it's trying to back the data up automatically), but this is really annoying, because I just want to power it up, and not start syncing. "WAHT THE NUTS????????!"
BTW, my carputer setup, with pics will be coming sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon. Like maybe tonigt, , , in a few hours
Leave the power cable plugged in so that it will charge the battery, but disconnect the USB connection to the computer. The PDA will be on, but will charge, and will not start ActiveSync.
Alternatively, you can take the power connection for an iPaq and plug it directly into the device to charge it, rather than putting it into the cradle.
The thing about the cradle is that when your device is in it, it thinks you want to sync with your computer, and it will periodically "wake up" and try to sync.
So, the easiest way to ensure that doesn't happen and you can still charge, is to bypass the cradle.
I know this works on an iPaq, and I assume this is also possible with an Axim, but I have never had an Axim, and am unfamiliar with it's ports.
I have an Axim and JD is right. Unhook the USB cable if you don't want it to sync, or close activesync after you cradle the Axim. Either way it will not try to sync while charging. If you have any alarms or alerts set, it will power up at these times.
Lame. . . My USB ports only work in the back of my computer and are soooo hard to get to. man. . . they just want to simplify things to the point of Apple.
Get a cheap USB extension cord. Then you can unhook whenever you want. They're all over Ebay. 5 -15' for $5.00 to $8.00 shipped, with or without lights. Much cheaper than an Apple.
