Unhappy Syncronizing

I just purchased an HP hx2795. I've installed the latest version of ActiveSync. It connects fine but It just sit's there after that saying it's sycnronizing but it never syncronizes. It would sit there all night saying that if I let it. Is there a setting I need to change or something? I've looked at the settings for ActiveSync on both my computer and my PPC and see nothing that would make it do this. Please help.

Thanks.

activesync

Hi
just a few questions which may assist us in helping you.

Is your ppc using Windows mobile 5 ?

What version number of Activesync are you using ?

Are you using Outlook and do you use a password in Outlook ?

What synchorisation options are you using ?(click on the details tab to show whats synching)

When you connect , does it say "looking for changes" before it says "synchronizing"?

Then does it give an indication of how many files are synching or how long it will take to complete ?

Do you use Avantgo?

Regards
Davey A in the UK.

Okay. Here it goes.....

Yes, my PPC uses Windows Mobile 5.

I'm using version 4.1 of Activesync, which I downloaded from the Microsoft site because the disk that came with it was only 4.0.

I am using Outlook 2003 but no password.

My options for synching are Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks, Notes, Favorites, Files, Media, Appointments. (I have tried it with and without Media selected.)

When I connect it does say "looking for changes" first before it says "Synchronizing".

It does not give any indication of how many files are synching or how long it will take. It just says "Synchronizing" and the little green circle with arrows animates like it's synching.

I do not use Avantgo.

I hope this helps. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Try removing some of the syncing options (I would start with e-mail) and see if a particular section is causing the hangup.

Why not try this RESYNC
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/applications/resync.htm

What it does is closes and re-opens active sync for you in the matter of seconds so that you can easily get going. Best of all its FREE....

I'm going to try this. I'm not sure why I haven't already because I had to do it before on my old PPC. It's been so long though so it didn't dawn on me. I'm going to try it though. The funny thing is, I don't have anything on it yet except for my owner information.

As far as the Resync, I've tried the whole reboot thing and it still didn't work. But I think I'll download it anyway because I know that after I get things working there will be days that ActiveSync just won't do right.

Thanks for the help. I'll try these things in a little bit and let you know how it works. Hopefully I'll figure out what's hanging it up.

Thanks.

Okay. I've figured it out. I started to try the process of elimination and unselected everything except contacts and it still wouldn't sync. Then, I thought about something that I had recently gone through with another issue on my desktop and decided to turn of my firewall. It worked! Everything sycs like it should.

Now, the problem is why won't it work when the firewall is on? Both ActiveSync and MS Outlook are added to the "Allowed" section. So, what could be the reason? Can someone help me with that?

Thanks!

Hey CoolVal:

Did you upgrade to SP2 before or after installing ActiveSync? Sometimes firewalls get a little moody if you don't install programs in the right order. When talking about your firewall, I'm assuming you are talking about XP's and not a third-party. Is this correct? Let me know so we can assist you further.

I have exactly the setup you have except it is on a Cingular 8125. I had the same exact problems. However I figured out real quick that if I took out Contacts it worked. This is my wife's phone so having a calender was the priority. Contacts input to the PC was as easy as into outlook. It has been suggested that I creat a contact.pst file and try sync'ng. My wife says no.. she is doing just fine and doesn't want to screw up what she has. So I'll never know.... She only needs Calander and Tasks... She gets her e-mail from MSN.. so she is just fine.
