I just got this Cingular 8125 to replace my Treo so I'm still on the low end of the learning curve.
At times I've noticed that it hangs up and although I have a decent amount of memory left, I'm wondering if it is the SD card I put in -- a 1 gig. Is it taking time to read the card when switching through programs?
One minor thing, I kill a lot of time, at least I did with my Treo waiting for appointment, etc playing solitaire. The solitaire game on the 8125 is difficult for me to read without my glasses. Anyone know where I can download a good solitaire game -- freeware of course preferred.
i had the same problem until i installed SPB Pocket Plus which has the feature that will let you actually close an application by clicking on the X on the top right hand corner rather then just minimizing it like it used to before. I think applications are eating up the memory which causes further slowness to the already slow 8125.
Thanks for the info. Where did you purchase the software you mentioned.
Actually, I don't know enough about this 8125 to say that I'm running low in memory since in the Program section of 44 MB available, I have 15 free. Is that good or bad or what?
I also have trouble with it freezing up at times and have to a soft reset to get it going.
I'm sur that over time and with the help of others on this forum, I'll get to like it.
While it's important to know how much Program Memory is free, it's also necessary to keep an eye on the amount of Storage Memory that's free.
Something else that I have had to keep in mind, having had an Ipaq 5555 before I got my Qtek 9100, is that the processor in our pocket
pc's only runs at ~200MHz, which no one will call 'fast' in today's market.
I am a Pocket Informant addict, but the slow CPU makes it almost impossible for me to 'link' contacts & appointments. (Having used PI on other devices I know the problem is a combination of the CPU speed, the available memory, and the large number of appointments & contacts I carry in my Pocket PC.) There have been times when I thought the device froze, but if I would just demonstrate patience, (4-5 mins!), everything would return to normal.
One thing that you may want to do is make sure you are using the latest ROM version on the 8125. I had the original ROM and i did find myself doing a lot of soft resets. The updated ROM can be found here: HTC America | Support
It stopped all of the soft resets for me. The speed is still marginal compared to some of the other devices that i've used, but i still like it.
So I just got my pocket pc, and, being the idiot that I am, accidently removed the storage card while turning the thing on.
So now the device will not work at all with the card in, and with the card out it lets me put in the password and then just freezes. Any suggestions????
With the little information you provided, it would seem that you need a soft reset. If that fails, can you start the device in safe mode ala windows? And if that does not work, and unless someone else out there has expereinced similar problems, it would seem to me that a hard reset should be considered.
I would agree with Jerrbitt, in that it looks like a hard reset would be necessary. I have experienced something similar, but not to teh extent of the device not working at all. Try the hard reset, (with the card out of the device. then once it is finished going through the standard installations, then put the storage card in and see if it reads.
I like the SPB Pocket Plus i have it in a Dell AXIM and it is a nice program. i have the 8125 and i have loaded evey thing i use on to the 8125. When i load the SPB pocket Plus on to the 8125 it will be fine untile i turn the phone off. when i turn it back on it comes to the windows mobile screen and just gets stuck there and i have to Hard reset and format the whole thing and start over. any ideas
Hello all,
I am new to all this pda/wi-fi/etc etc stuff. My question is when "surfing" downloading etc etc are you charged no matter what or only charged if you surf through cingular. for example I stay the week in a hotel in god knows where and don't have a lap top but the hotel has free wi/fi will the phone auto dtect it like my lap top will and not go through cingular?
Did you ever get an answer? I had to call Cingular Tech Services and it took what seemed like at least 1/2 hr to set it up appropriately. I haven't figured out if its possible to send attachments when writing message.
