Hi there,
I've just came across this Free Push-Email service at www.emoze.com.
They say "emoze will automatically push your emails and PIM data to your phone as soon as it is sent to you without you having to pro-actively connect to a service every time you want to send or receive".
Does anyone tried this service before and can send a feedback about it
BTW, They say it's totally for free, how come???...
I downloaded the emoze client and installed on both my windows pc and pocket pc.. the first thing i noticed is that it deletes all contacts and calender info on your phone.. to be fair it does warn you of this so that emoze can re-sync everything their way.. after several hours of figuring it out, i got everything running smoothly... for a day!
then it started to just turn the phone off and on. non stop until i did a soft reset and uninstalled the program
i also noticed that the pc server would crash and restart after every push
i guess the saying is true. you get what u pay for
when it worked it worked well, i would wait till the bugs are fixed
just my 2cents
sorry i forgot to mentiont that i installed emoze on a ppc-6700 with the new rom update, although i'm not sure that had anything to do with it
Don't know what about you guys but for me this emoze thing…just works perfect. Since I’ve installed emoze on both my PC and PPC I can run my entire office from the local Starbucks. My entire emails from work are being smoothly delivered into my PPC in conjunction with the PIM being remotely synchronized with my workstation at work. As for the support in Lotus Notes, I’ve asked the company the same question on behalf of my wife and her Nokia 6080 and have been kindly told by them that their next version to come (emoze 1.1) will support Lotus Notes…somewhere in May. As a final thought, it’s FREE, it’s FAST, and it seems to support a wide variety of devices and platforms… I just wish I could have some more reliable and valuable apps for free like this one to thunder up my tech curiosity in this peaceful Easter.
Have a great Easter
Ben
Good for you if you like it. But I still maintain that a real Push mail solution should establish a server/client connection when new mail reaches the mailbox. The server should initiate the connection and push the email. Emoze just does it the other way around, i.e. the client has to periodically initiate the connection to check for new emails, plus you have to keep your PC on, whether at home or at the office, at all times. Emoze also requires that you have a constant internet connection on your PC.
Now, if you're using Windows mobile, open the messaging program, tap Menu and options. Tap your email account and click next until you reach screen 4 of the setup process. On that screen tap Options and you will be able to configure your device to connect to the email server directly at your chosen intervals. The big advantage with that compared to Emoze: You don't have to have any PC on 24/7.
The Emoze setup that Meslierlp is describing reminds me of the Blackberry Desktop Redirector that the Blackberry guys have. It is used for those who don't have access to a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server). Basically, your desktop PC acts as the server and sends out little notifications to the Blackberry servers (or Emoze in this case) when email is recieved on the desktop which then sends it to you (but I think with Emoze it just notifies your mail client to initiate the download).
I haven't personally used Emoze but I figure that the reason why people would choose Emoze over having your mail client on your Pocket PC periodically poll the mail server is so that your Pocket PC doesn't have to waste battery life or data (heavens forbid that you don't have an unlimited plan if you are using e-mail) constantly checking your mail server even when there is no mail present.
This is all just ranting, but I'll do more research on Emoze if I'm wrong.
if you really want a direct push mail solution through an exchange server, go to this link: http://pocketpcmauritius.blogspot.com/2006/04/real-free-direct-push-mail-service.html
Wow, you must really despise Emoze . I too have used mail2web to try out on my Pocket PC. It works great but I wish that I could use my domain name for free.
