What's new in PocketBreeze version 5.0.10?
* Major speed improvements - new direct OS database reading implemented!
With this new version you will find lots of new changes that we've been working on for a long time now, but the main change that we've been focusing about for this update is making PocketBreeze work and load much faster. With the new update we've completely re-written PocketBreeze's whole PIM information loading code (code sections that read the appointments, tasks and contacts information from the OS databases) using much better methods that read the information much faster.
The loading speed improvement that you will notice with this new build depends on the amount of information that you store on your device and the way that you configured PocketBreeze, however, for the most the new PocketBreeze version should load and function about 2 to 3 times faster or even better!
In addition to the loading speed improvement, the popup monthly calendar will also be loading the timelines and category icons much faster now when toggling between months. Loading date spans from the popup monthly calendar to the PocketBreeze Today screen display will also load much faster now and switch back to the default date span should be much faster too!
The main concern when we started working on this new update that required about a full month of coding, was that some of our users will prefer to see us releasing a new update with more new features and not working to hard on such a change, which is mainly focusing about speeding up PocketBreeze. However, I believe that this great speeding improvement that we've managed to achieve with this new update, which I'm sure you will all notice once installing this new version, is a very important step in our code for us as we continue towards adding more features with future updates. We want to be sure that we do it the right way and that even though we are adding new features to PocketBreeze, in will still remain fast and snappy. After we've completed this major re-structure in the way we are loading the information, we will now be able to include more features without effecting the speed that PocketBreeze is working as we are basing on our new accelerated loading code. I'm hoping that most of our users will see this the same way too of course.
* New recurring exception icon
New recurring exception icon was added that will now be displayed with all exception items on a recurring pattern. The new recurring exception icon can of course be skinned using the file name "exception.tag" to the skin files. A new skinning guide including this update too will be uploaded within a few hours.
* Problem with PI attached icons and link icons not showing on WM5 devices fixed
Since the release of the new Windows Mobile 5 OS and later the new PI updates, users that were using PB with PI on WM5 OS were unable to view PI link icons or PI individual attached icons on PocketBreeze. With today's new update this issue was fixed and users should be able to see PI link icons and attached icons also on PocketBreeze on WM5 devices smile.gif I hope this fix will help many of our users that requested to see this fixed.
* Problem with PI templates not showing fixed
With the last version we had an issue that caused users that are using a device with non-American date format and using PI, not to see PI templates on the "Create new item from template" popup context menus. With the new build this issue should be fixed and all users that are using PI should also be able to see PI templates listed for them on the "Create new from template" context menus.
* About screen moved from main DLL and build information added
With this new update, we've moved the PocketBreeze about screen from the main DLL to the PocketBreeze settings section, and by this making the PocketBreeze main dll smaller. Since the PocketBreeze settings section can be installed outside of the main memory this allows users to save move space on their device main memory this way.
In addition, the About screen will now also include the build version of the current PocketBreeze that you are running, stating if this build was compiled for PPC2002 device, 2003 or WM5 OS. This will allow us to better check with users that are reporting on certain issues in the future if indeed they are using the correct build for their device or not.
* Traditional Chinese, Russian and Greek translations updated
With the great help of our translators, with this new version you will now find updated translations for T.Chinese, Russian and Greek resources. A big thank you to all our translators that keep helping us translate PocketBreeze.
