Hi all,
The other day I released a nice little Task timer for desktop computers called TaskBlaze. TaskBlaze is a small, fast, efficient and easy to use application that keeps accurate track of your time dedicated to your tasks.
* I wanted to alert you to the desktop version so you could have it.
* Wanted to also find out the interest level in me building a Pocket PC version.
So would you have a need for a quick easy to use task tracker for your Pocket PC? I don't want to port it if the interest isn't there.
Feel free to respond here, or on my blog thread here.
Brad:
This might be an obvious question but if you port the app to the PPC, would it log time between "start" and "finish" even when the unit was off?
Myself, I don't really have a lot of use for a task timer as I'm a corporate trainer working in a single setting with the same small group for a year or more at a time. (Sounds like Sartre's version of hell doesn't it? ) But the advantage of the PPC is portability and the instant on/off functionality. I could imagine a field consultant would like to be able to log time while on site and still be able to turn the computer on and off at will.
... wait.... Scratch that. Maybe I would have a need. I'm thinking an internal auditor so I can keep track of how long I spend on each "task" (class lesson) per day, for my own review. (I teach the same guys from 8:30 - 5:00, 5 days a week for 12 to 18 months at a time so it's easy to get sidetracked and waste too much time on one skill area...)
Or am I misunderstanding what your app aims to do?

Yes, it would record the precise time regardless of whether it's on or off...with the only exception being a soft reset while the program is running.

Through my blog I've been learning alot of the needs of people who want to be more organized and keep more careful track of their time. With that said, it's like the money managers who have you record every penny you spend...if you don't know where it's going, you won't know how to stop it from flowing away...It's the same with time.

Exactly If your lesson is supposed to last 45 minutes and it actually takes you real-time 60 minutes, you may never become conscious of it.
But you are right, it would be helpful for field techs, consultants, lawyers and others who bill by the hour as well.

Good point. Count me as interested then.
My only problem is that because my PPC and copy of Active Sync are in English and my copy of Outlook is in Japanese, the two don't communicate well with each other. I can't sync any of my mail folders with my PPC (the names are different and I haven't been able to relabel my PC's in-box in English...)
However appointments seem to have no problem with the language barrier. "Tasks" I don't know about. I don't think I've ever even looked for them on the PC. So, for me, this would be used probably on the PPC only in Pocket Informant.
Would it work that way?
*Beleated....* crappy double-posting Japanese work computer.
Can I please have a computer and operating system from this millenium?!
Just give me two cans, some string and an abacusus.
