"Locatrix Communications has launched a series of plug-ins for Instant Messaging clients that add current location to user presence information. The location data -- obtained from network beacons such as WiFi hotspots and cellular towers -- can be shared with anyone in the user's contact list, according to the company.
The Locatrix Application Services Platform utilizes a variety of wireless and fixed networks, including 802.11, GSM, CDMA, and 3G, to determine the status and location of mobile devices, Locatrix says. The system can also determine information from proximity systems based on Bluetooth, RFID tags, and corporate security access systems." via WindowsforDevices
