Last week we were discussing Calligrapher handwriting recognition software for your Pocket PC. I loaded it up and have been enjoying the new wordpad feature. It gets almost every word right.
Changes in CalliGrapher 8.1
1. Improved CalliGrapher Statistical Analyzer (CSA) algorithm.
2. Configuration icon is now displayed in the top right corner of Write Pad, so you can easily see which configuration is currently selected. If needed, the icon can be disabled using the Configuration Manager.
3. Create Copy command added to the PenCommander popup menu. It allows to quickly create similar PenCommands.
4. CalliGrapher 8.1 is optimized for devices with square screens (240x240 and 480x480).
5. Many internal changes have been made to improve overall performance and address some minor compatibility issues.
You can download a trial or an update at their website
The Transcriber works so incredibly well on my Dell Axim X51v that I am wondering if CalliGrapher will help or hinder. WM5 does not include the Orientation arrow at the bottom left. it recognizes, with extreem accuracy, no matter how you write. I look at my writing... I know what it says but I think, "Someone would have a hard time reading this." Then BOOM transcriber gets it correct. It's facinating.
Dell shipped CalliGrapherDELL.exe version 8.099 - In your opinion, should I install it?
Thanks for your help.

P.S. I recently received my Dell Axim51v. As you know, I am a newbie to PPC and had frustrations with my e800.
There are two things I miss on the e800... the .3 inches of additional screen and the ease of use of the side recorder and toggle button. That being said, I do not want my e800 back. I love the smaller form factor. The screen is brilliant. Except when outside I use it on the lowest setting. The internal speaker is louder, the system is more stable and so far, everything I need works perfectly in WM5.
The built in WiFi connects with no fuss. I have not tested the BT yet. The battery life is impressive for such a small battery. WiFi drains the battery quicker than I would like but without it you can get many hours of use.
WM5 (or Dell?) included a Switcher Bar. When activated, it appears as an icon (an ugly icon) near Start. This icon will give you a menu where you can access Brightness control, Power setings, ActiveSync, (True) Exit current Program, Exit all Programs. Best of All, there is a List of all the programs and you can switch programs with a tap on the list. Perhaps there are better solutions but this one is free. I like it. I do wish I had control of where the icon appeares on the screen.
I wish DELL would let me access the WiFi utility directly from the Connectivity icon on Today. It takes 4 taps to turn on the Wifi. However, two quick clicks of thumb button gets you on right away.
With Spb Diary and Pocket informant, I do not get a NEW menu at the bottom. I look forward to the Hackers moving to WM5 so that we can gain more control over the bottom Task Bar.
So far, the AximX51v meets and exceeds my expectations.
Hi,
Re: Calligrapher If it aint broke don't fix it.
Calligrapher is necessary for me because I have trouble with recognition as it is. Calligrapher does do it a bit better with the writepad thing.
It also allows for scripting.
But if I was happy with transcriber, I'd lean away from Calligrapher because you aren't going to see much difference - unless you want the scripting.
